Any hints to speed up initial loading? And usage?

Postby Yabba » Sat Jul 29, 2006 11:14 am

I have got YDS set to load at startup and also to show its icon in the system tray when minimised. Both of those work fine and do not slow the machine down by taking a lot of machine power. (Athlon 2100+ with 768MB.)

I get a long delay when I double-click the icon in order to bring up the full screen of YDS. QUESTION ONE: What hints & tips do people have to do a much faster initial launch of the full screen? For example, can I launch the initial screen without showing any search results?

QUESTION TWO: Can I do a search which does *not* start to populate the YDS results screen with filenames until I have completely finished entering the search terms and press some button to say "GO"?

Thank guys.
Yabba.

The answer to question two might be to use the X1 Deskbar.

You then have a place to put your search, and nothing happens until you press the relevant button on the bar.

This does impose some limits in that you can have only so many buttons visible. But it is a start.

You can, by the way, change the order of those buttons, and those that show, by adjusting your "Favorite" searches in X1.

No, I have nothing to do with X1, just a user since 2004.

The X1 deskbar sounds interesting. How do I get it?

Deskbar installs when you install X1.

Add it as you would any Windows Toolbar.

"Right click" on a clean bit of the the Windows task bar.

Look at the "Toolbars" entry.

There is also a separate "Help" entry in the X1 Help files.

Of course, this does depend on having the right version of X1.

I guess the next thing to ask is what is the right version?

Does YDS also have this feature?

Thanks!

YDS has dropped its "Deskbar" feature about half a year ago...

We recommend you use X1 Enterprise Client v5.5.5 just released, especially since it's also free, and it has the Deskbar:

Hope this helps!
