Indexing Yahoo Messenger

Postby Kelli » Wed Feb 07, 2007 11:27 am

I just "upgraded" to X1 ® Enterprise Client Version 5.6.2 from YDS. I am no longer able to index my Yahoo Messenger data. I use IM everyday to talk to my co-workers and clients and I really need to index this data. Is this feature no longer available? If it is available, how to I enable it?

Thanks,

Kelli

p.s. For now I have switched to Trillian, and indexing is working. When I was using Yahoo, it stored the logs at .dat files. I would still like to be able to use Yahoo Messenger instead, because IT blocks Trillian sometimes.

X1 is not the same thing as YDS.

If you are saying that you have a local copy of your Yahoo Messenger data, and its is in an X1 friendly format, then you may be able to add it.

Did you download Yahoo's version of X1, v5.6.2 ?
[There was a version# there 2 weeks ago, but they've apparently taken down the version# now].

I was told that this Yahoo version of XEC v5.6.2 can index Yahoo Instant Messenger messages...

Yes, I downloaded Yahoo's version from the site you gave. The Yahoo logs are in .dat format, is it possible to index that type of file?

Just checked with X1 directly for you, and sorry for my previous inaccurate posting, and here are the facts:

1) Only the XEC (X1 Enterprise Client) v5.6.2 is available for download (specifically, there is no "Yahoo version of XEC", sorry for the confusion):

So for the following two URL links, you are actually downloading the very same XEC v5.6.2:

www.x1.com/download
www.x1.com/yahoo

2. XEC v5.6.2 does not index for Yahoo Instant Messenging.

3. The only workaround I'm aware of is to try downloading YDS from other software download sites while you can (before it's taken down).

A quick Yahoo web search yielded the following links to download YDS:

YDS, v1.2, Build 1852je, released 5-Dec-2005
http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Ya ... 05420067/1

YDS, v1.2, Build 1852jc, released 29-Sept-2005
www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-Enhance ... arch.shtml

4. If other users have more recent YDS builds, please let us know in this thread where to download on the internet. Tks!

Check this out:

http://www.x1.com/yahoo/faq.html

As to the ability to index files, ".dat" is one of those omnibus files that could be anything.

If you sniff around the X1 help files and manuals you will see how to tell it how to index different file formats.

Thank you for your help, Mr. Wong! I have decided to stick with Trillian for now. X1 has had no problem indexing my chat logs today. I'll keep an eye on this forum though, to see if they ever integrate Yahoo IM.

Thanks!

I'm very certain that the last last public YDS build is:

http://forums.x1.com/viewtopic.php?t=2649

yds1852je.exe
Yahoo! Desktop Search 1.2
Build 1852je

I did download/install this from Yahoo site as recently as Oct'2006 for a YDS user's question, and I'm fairly certain that there were no updates since then.

So last YDS version is as above.

My solution

Postby JamesJames » Sun Jul 08, 2007 12:57 pm

Finally got X1 installed. This is how I did it:

In Vista
1. Rightclick on the downloaded executable (x1_pro_client_3470.exe) and chose "Create Shortcut".

2. Rightclick on the shortcut and choose Properties.

3. In the Target box it says:
"C:\Users\JamesJames\Downloads\x1_pro_client_3470.exe"

At the end of this line, type a space and "/quiet" so it now reads:
"C:\Users\JamesJames\Downloads\x1_pro_client_3470.exe" /quiet

4. OK to close the Shortcut Properties.

5. Double click on the Shortcut to start the "Quiet installation" (which will show no dialog screens at all - that's what a quiet install is).

6. Wait forever - don't try to run X1 when the desktop icon appears - installation may still be going on in the background.

Notes:
In 3.(above) I am JamesJames - your Vista will have your name instead.
Creating a shortcut and adding " /quiet" to the end of the Target in the Shortcut Properties should work in XP too.

The last message in this thread suddenly appeared here and has little to do with the subject. It also appears elsewhere in a more appropriate slot. I'm just adding this marker so that people seeking stuff on YDS don't get sidetracked.
