My favorite X1 version (6.2.3) won't index Office 365 email

Postby x1yoga » Thu Dec 17, 2020 1:45 pm

Back on the forum after a decade! Seems a little quiet around here. (kicks tumbleweed to the side) Anyway, until recently I was enjoying my perpetual license of X1 v6.2.3. I absolutely LOVE that version, it's perfect if a little slow to start. That is, until I updated to Office 365.

Now when trying to index Outlook, I get "Error logging in" in the lower right corner, and manually starting the indexing again I get "An error was encountered while indexing Outlook. Please restart X1 though the File -> Exit option and try again. If the problem persists, please contact support for assistance." Which is what I'm doing!

Looking in Options > Email > Outlook > Select folders to scan, the folder selection box is entirely blank. If @Kenward was still around he'd say "It seems like your mail profile was damaged". I tried making a new non-connected email profile via the Windows classic control panel, but maybe I'm doing it wrong, X1 still doesn't see it.

Does anyone have any suggestions, registry fixes, profile fixes, etc? For now I am running Copernic (the shame! ), but I'm really hoping to somehow revive this version.

Below is the relevant part of the log file.

Happy new year everyone! Here's hoping 2021 is the year that my X1 install returns to indexing Outlook! Anyone have any ideas?

Hello X1Yoga - you're right, it is a little dusty and cob web like on the forums, but I thought it would be wise to respond to your issue.

You can, of course, continue to use X1 Professional Client 6.2.3; as you stated, it is a Perpetual Use license, but the perpetuity of the license may have reached it end if only because X1 Professional Client does not support use with Windows 10; the OS supported are Windows 7, Vista, and XP. Further, that product only supports the following versions of Outlook: 2003, 2007, and 2010 (32-bit only).
Sincerely,

Hi Chris, thanks for the response. X1 actually works great on Windows 10 and with Office 2016, even if official support has lapsed. It just seems like recent changes in Office 365 are the culprit, so I was hoping someone has figured out how to get around this. I guess I could go back to Office 2016.

Alternatively, is there a perpetual license version of X1 these days? I can't find it on the website, so perhaps the answer is 'no'. In which case, consider this a feature request: offer X1 with a perpetual license for individuals.

X!Yoga,

X1's licensing policy has recently changed.

Today, all new licenses are sold as Term of Service licenses. X1 is currently offering two terms:

1 A one year term at $79.00 plus applicable taxes of course.

2 A three Year term, currently being offered a special price of $132.20 (special promotion from the regular $189 price).

You can purchase directly at www.x1.com - click the "Buy Desktop Search" button to be taken to the shopping cart.

Thanks, I gathered as much. I hope at some point X1 will consider adding a lower cost version that only indexes files and mail/contacts/calendar, without online services and without sharepoint.

This would be similar to the way that Copernic does it.

They charge $15/yr for
Microsoft Word
Microsoft Excel
Microsoft PowerPoint
Microsoft OneNote
Microsoft Outlook & PST
Adobe Acrobat PDF

They charge $10.50/yr extra for adding
Google Drive
Dropbox
Microsoft OneDrive
WordPerfect
IBM Notes
Thunderbird & Eudora
e-Books

Oddly they want an extra $30/yr for adding OCR. Seems steep!

Anyway, I like that they have an affordable pretty full-featured basic version, hoping you will do something similar at some point.
