How to search content with and without "&" character

Postby Vidyarthi » Tue Jun 13, 2017 9:01 am

I have indexed thousands of documents that include the string: Thomson Reuters/Tax & Accounting

Need to search for the string "tax accounting" but X1 Search 8 returns all documents that include the longer string above as well. The ampersand is ignored, so double quoting the search phrase doesn't seem to have an effect.

Thanks for any suggestions - or pointer to instructions on this kind of thing.

X1 doesn't allow search on characters. That's true of many search programs, especially those that allow "regex" searches.

Have you tried using NEAR?

Tax NEAR Accounting (That finds the two within 10 words of each other.)

or

Tax= NEAR Accounting (Rules out words like taxation.)

Better still

Tax= NEAR/2 Accounting (That finds the two within 2 words of each other.)

No, I have nothing to do with X1, just a user since 2004.

That does get it a lot closer - thank you Kenward.
