How do I clear the search histories of Deskbar & Outlook

Postby dpgilliland » Sat Feb 10, 2007 12:22 pm

Does anyone know how to clear the deskbar history?

I even went into the windows registry to try to remove it that way, but it didn't seem to work.

Basically, if I search for something, I might not want others who might have access to my desktop to see past searchers.

You can clear the XEC Deskbar History by directly editing the Registry* as follows:

Start>>Run
Type in "Regedit" and press [Enter]
[HKey_Current_User]>>[Software]>>[X1 Desktop Search]>>[Deskbar]>>[History]

Then delete any unwanted entries as desired.

==========
Note: '*' Before you edit/change any Windows Registry items, please remember to back up:

1. user must user data before manipulating the Windows Registry
2. user should make a backup of Windows Registry before manipulating with
it. If user don't know how to do this, user should not be fooling around
with the Windows Registry.

If you want to be able to do this regularly, when you have "emptied" the memory by editing the registry, export the relevant registry branch to create a .reg file. Then when you want to clear the memory again, try merging the .reg file into your registry. I haven't tried it, but it may clean out the memory again.

No, I have nothing to do with X1, just a user since 2004.

dpgilliland,

There is not a simple method of removing your existing X1 Deskbar search history. Additionally, we've had users request the ability to remove their search history from the X1 Outlook Toolbar as well as to remove all of their X1 search history (X1 Deskbar + X1 Outlook Toolbar).

I've automated this process by creating three separate zip files that remove the applicable registry entries. You will only need to download and run one of the files.

Download the applicable .ZIP file and run the included .REG file.

- To clear all of your X1 search history (X1 Deskbar + X1 Outlook Toolbar): http://www.x1.com/cs/x1_clear_search_history.zip
- To clear your history from just the X1 Deskbar: http://www.x1.com/cs/x1_clear_deskbar_s ... istory.zip
- To clear your history from just the X1 Outlook Toolbar: http://www.x1.com/cs/x1_clear_outlook_t ... istory.zip

For this change to take effect, you will need to restart Outlook, close/open the X1 Deskbar or you can simply choose to restart your computer.

I hope this helps!
