Feature request: index PST files that Outlook doesn't open

PostPosted: Fri Jan 20, 2006 5:51 am
I recently started using Iron Mountain's backup tool: Connected DataProtector. It's a wonderful backup solution. One notable feature of the Connected tool is that it natively knows how to read PST files; that is, it doesn't access PST files through Outlook---so that it can do email by email backups (greatly speeding up backup times).

I have many gigabytes of email in PST files. Most of the PST files are not opened automatically by Outlook because it unnecessarily slows down Outlook; however, that doesn't change the fact that I would like those PSTs indexed.

You, the X1 guys, should talk to the Connected DataProtector developers and figure out how to read the PSTs without relying upon Outlook. This might also allow you to remove the annoying feature where X1 keeps PSTs open even after Outlook has exited.

I downloaded the lastest version of X1 and found that this feature is already offered. This is great news and I wish that someone had replied earlier to this post pointing out to me that I needed to RTFM.
