Has anyone worked out how to tell X1 not to be a road hog?

Postby Kenward » Mon Mar 31, 2008 2:28 pm

I have just hit another bout of road rage on the part of X1.

My PC grinds to a halt and won't do anything because X1 insists that it is the master of the universe and must hog the limelight.

It eats 50% of the CPU time on my AMD2 processor.

Come on, this is indexing software, not a life support mechanism.

I wonder if the codeheads have ever spent time trying to do normal work while X1 grinds away in the background.

This has come up before. Never seen any response or advice on the best way of avoiding this unruly behaviour.

Anyone managed to tame the beast?

No, I have nothing to do with X1, just a user since 2004.

I noticed that I had set up my X1 a little wrong ~ it was trying to index Notes even though Notes wasn't around, and it wasn't correctly indexing Thunderbird. There was no indication that these errors were stirring up road rage, but when I fixed them it seemed (very unscientific testing) that road range was considerably reduced.

Try disabling the option for indexing files in real-time. You will find this option in the Tools > Options > Files menu.

Please post back on whether disabling this option helps your issue.
