Native Gmail Search Support

We just started using Gmail as our corporate email server and because we access our email through many different gadgets we only use the IMAP format, so POP3 is not a alternative. I hope native support of gmail IMAP format is somewhere in X1's future. I think it's a great product and would love to continue to use it to search my email.

Thanks
RS

Given the arrival of X1 Social, and the growth of cloud services, we can expect to see growing interest in using X1 for this sort of thing.

I use GMail via the web interface and would love to be able to index and search with X1.

If Google's own desktop toy does not yet offer this, I'd bet that they are working on it. In which case, their should be links that X1 can plug into.

We just switched from Exchange to Google Apps Gmail and now can no longer natively search our emails. I knew this would be the case but am hoping that this feature gets added.

Until X1 provides an opportunity to search "cloud mail" is there any way that you can replicate your Google Apps GMail locally, preferably in Outlook?

Maybe IMAP would work.

Then you would have a synchronised local copy of your GMail data that X1 could handle. Not a bad move to add a layer of security to your email.

It strikes me that X1 has to find ways to plug into the cloud if it wants to stay at the cutting edge. Fortunately, the development of X1 Social suggests that this is on the cards.

We receive a large number of big attachments, which was causing some issues with space on our Exchange server. That was one of the reasons we moved to Gmail. Also, when we moved from SBS 2003 to Win 2008, Outlook and Exchange were no longer included free. So continuing to use Exchange is not an option for us.

You don't need Exchange to use IMAP locally. But Google Apps Gmail has to support it.

Maybe you should sniff around here:

Google Apps Outlook Sync for Microsoft® Outlook – Google Apps

If you can get your email to work with Outlook, then you may also be able to get X1 to work with your email.
