Does the X1 6.6 client support Windows 7 64-bit?

I recently upgraded my XP machine to Windows 7 64-bit and moved my X1 v6.1 (build 3575). It installed okay but seems to be unreliable. It rebuilds the indices often, seems to be behind mail, etc.

If I buy a new version 6.6 will it fix these issues?

How long have you been running X1?

If you have a lot of information, it can take quite some time to complete the job.

You are, by the way, quite some versions behind current – 6.1 has given way to various flavours of 6.2

You will find these when you login to your support account:

6.2.4 Client
6.2.3 Client
6.2.2 Client
6.2.1 Client
6.2 Client

Quite which one you can install depends on when you bought your licence. A while back X1 changed the licence regime, which requires a 16-digit licence.

X1 has been running for days, seems to complete but then later seems to start rebuilding again as if the indices became corrupt.

I have a 13 digit license from Feb 2008.

I think I'll just buy a new version, I was hoping to get confirmation there were no Windows 7 64-bit issues before doing that though. Any chance you know?

This is an artefact. What the percentage thing is telling you is that it has done that much of the work still to be completed. In other words, if it has already completed 90%, when it says "1%" it seems to mean 1% of the remaining 10%.

This confusion has been around for a long time.

For example, I have just told it to "Index files now" even though it claimed to have completed indexing. It now says "0.07% complete".

Can't help on 64-bit. Not gone that far yet. But I haven't seen reports here of problems with the bits in the OS. There may be challenges if you have 64-bit Office. But even there I wouldn't really know.

You can always give X1 a 10-day trial – too short in my opinion – and go back if it doesn't work out. My guess, though, is that newer versions are more likely to be 64-bit happy than an older version.

I also find that closing X1 and using something like defraggler to defrag the X1 Databases helps performance somewhat. They get very heavily fragmented quickly.

I was trying to check the content indexing status for the filetype SCT. This is basically impossible to find because X1 lists this as "Windows Script Component" in the results list, and as "Lotus Screen Snapshot" in the 'specify file types' dialog. See image below (for as long as postimage.org hosts it..).
