x1 Not indexing all attachments

I manage inventory and get nightly reports on all inventory in the field. I often will search for a serial number to track it down and see what happened to it. For some reason on 9-6 X1 stopped indexing the contents of the reports. I can search for the subject the reports come in on and it knows the reports are there. The reports are xls's. Outlook 2007. XP. Newest Blackbird Beta. New beta installed on 9-17 as far as I can tell. No changes I can think of on or around 9-6.

Thoughts?

864k items indexed
170k attachments
686k emails

Where are these reports? I assume that they are individual files rather than email attachments.

Are you sure that X1 is set to examine the contents of files in that location?

I ask because X1 can index subjects, by which I assume you means names, but not content if the settings tell it to.

They are email attachments. Coming into my inbox or filtered to my deleted items folder at times.

Deleted items? A recipe for disaster.

X1, wisely, defaults to ignoring various folders in Windows and Outlook.

You should look at your Outlook settings and ensure that it is not set up to ignore deleted items.

If this is a regular task, I suggest that it would be a good idea to find an addon for Outlook that automatically strips out attachments and saves them in folders that X1 can monitor and index.

This is how I work.

In my case, I use Ornic Inbox Rules. I don't recommend this software. The developers seem to have abandoned it. Instead, check out www.slipstick.com for alternatives. I am looking or newer software to perform this task myself.

I'm still having this issue. The emails come directly to my inbox, sit there for a few hours and then i move them off to the deleted items folder. they stay there a few days to weeks, then down to an archive pst. I'm really trying to understand why they suddenly stopped being indexed. I'm seeing this with SOME other excel attachments, but not all. Anyone have any ideas? I do have X1 set to index deleted items. Outlook 2007, SP SP2 (or so), latest X1 Blackbird. Index size of 800k ish. Though it's reporting 1.6M at this time, i've moved some items around and it's not done figuring it out.

Just to jump the gun, i've cleared the indexes and am having it rebuild them. I've removed most older PST's and am just starting with this year. That's still almost 250k emails. The main question is why do some Excel attachments not get indexed.
