X1 ® Professional Client Raptor Beta 1
(Build 3943) (Created: Fri Nov 13 17:30:00 PDT 2009)

We are pleased to announce the release of the Raptor Beta and would really like everyone to give it a try and let us know how it works out for you. We have done a lot in this release to improve performance, reliability, and smoothness of the interaction. While we would be curious to know how you think this performs with regard to 6.2.4 (currently available on the website), we are most curious to hear how this performs relative to the 6.6.5 version (currently available on the forum).

Some things you should try out:
  • General searching and look for responsiveness of the results pane
  • Multiple term searching
  • Sorting results by multiple columns or reversing sort order on a given column
  • Switching tabs
  • Test Outlook Real Time Indexing (on all your folders now)

NOTE: Installing this build requires that .NET 3.0 or higher be installed on your computer. Here is the link to the latest .NET 3.5 SP1:

**Important Considerations**
- KNOWN DOWNGRADE ISSUE: Downgrading from X1 Professional Client Raptor to 6.2.x (or lower) while saving settings will cause issues in the X1 index that prevent the application from launching. If you plan to downgrade from X1 Professional Client Raptor, uninstall the X1 client WITHOUT saving settings.
- Remember that we always advise that you uninstall any currently installed version of X1, without saving your settings/preferences, before installing any beta build
- Please restrict all comments regarding this release to this section of the forum
- Any user upgrading from 5.5.5 or previous will be required to rebuild their index files.

  • Files RTI is not compatible with Microsoft Vista junction points.
  • 64-bit operating systems are not currently supported.

Our goal is to test and validate that our products work with those products our customers and partners use most frequently. Just because a particular version of the third-party software is not listed on the supported platforms guide does not mean that the product will not work with X1, just that we do not explicitly test that version of the application.

I don't think it is just my imagination, but this version does seem to be a whole lot quicker when asked to leap into action. I was beginning to get worried about how slow X1 had become.

Switching to a new tab seems fast enough, but then it can take a time (10 seconds or more) to show the results and display the first file.

But this is a slightly ratty old PC. Maybe it is time to do Windows 7 and 64-bit.

Installed the Raptor Beta yesterday as an upgrade over 6.6.5 on my Windows 7 64-bit system.

I have a couple of issues that have persisted: first - still don't have a DeskBar.

Second - I have over 225,000 email messages and have them broken up into 27 .pst files. These index fine with the "released" versions of X1, but not with Thunderbird or Raptor. About 50k emails just... aren't there.

I've re-indexed, removed completely and reinstalled and re-indexed, added the pst files for "missing" emails manually to the Folder Selection, and they still don't get indexed. (PST files themselves are OK - this works fine on my dev system - WinXP - with last released version of X1 pro client.)

This version found a PST file that the 6.6.5 client had missed. However, it also crashes quite a bit. Crashes every time I delete an email. Crashes 1/2 times on startup. Slow to index items and I don't like having the RTI on all folders. Gone back to previous release.

Did you install over an earlier version?

Or was it a clean install?

If the former, it might be worth trying a thorough clean out and fresh install.

I have seen no crashes with the new version.

Thanks for the reply. It was an installation over the previous version. I shouldn't really use beta versions since I use X1 all the time and is necessary for work but, like a moth to a flame, I saw the words 'increased performance' and took a leap. Downgrading was fine but it lost the newly discovered PST that Raptor had found. I am happy enough with the performance of this version so will wait for an RC or full release of this version.

Greg, does the Raptor Beta replace:
X1 ® Professional Client Version 6.6.5 (formerly Blackbird)
(Build 3926) (Created: Tue Oct 27 13:06:52 PDT 2009) ?

Or is this a different program?

debblr,

Yes, the Raptor Beta does replace v6.5.5 (Blackbird) -- thanks for asking.

I did a clean install on Win7, 64bit, and have exactly the same issues. Crashes upon deleting any email, and oddly my main Outlook.pst file is not indexed. No calendar items and contacts are found, even though I manually added the corresponding PST in all the related indexing sections in Options, and provided the PST password. This may be related to the fact that both my active email accounts are in separate IMAP PST files, so if X1 tries to find appointments in an active email account, this would not work. Still, manually pointing X1 to the correct PST should work, but it doesn't.

I upgraded to this beta recently and had found the performance better than the previous version. Unfortunately X1 crashed completely after my computer crash during resume from hibernation. I use hibernation every day and you do get the occasional crash on resume, but I never expected it to trash X1. Only solution option available in the end was total clean re-install. Frustrating. Indexing all over again which is looking like taking at least 1 day.

Are there any plans to make this task less intrusive? Being unable to start X1 meant unable to clean the index out (which apparently was corrupted). Can this be done some other way other than complete re-install?

hangie,

Here are steps which will delete only the X1 index files, allowing your X1 configuration settings to remain intact:
    1. (If possible) Close X1 using the File > Exit command (verify that both X1.exe and X1Service.exe processes are stopped via Task Manager)
    2. Download and run this file: http://www.x1.com/cs/x1_index_deletion_tool.exe
    3. You will be provided with a warning message, respond "Yes"
    4. Launch X1 and your indexes will be automatically rebuilt
NOTE: This will require your indexes to be rebuilt. You may want to wait until the end of your work day before installing to allow time for the indexes to build overnight without interrupting your use of the computer.
I hope this helps!
