X1 ® Professional Client Raptor Beta 3
(Build 3964) (Created: Tue Dec 15 15:01:24 PST 2009)

We are pleased to announce the release of the Raptor Beta 3 and would really like everyone to give it a try and let us know how it works out for you. We have done a lot with the Raptor set of releases to improve performance, reliability, and smoothness of the interaction. While we would be curious to know how you think this performs with regard to 6.2.4 (currently available on the website), we are most curious to hear how this performs relative to the 6.6.5 version (currently available on the forum).

Some things you should try out:
  • General searching and look for responsiveness of the results pane
  • Multiple term searching
  • Sorting results by multiple columns or reversing sort order on a given column
  • Switching tabs
  • Test Outlook Real Time Indexing (on all your folders now)

NOTE: Installing this build requires that .NET 3.0 or higher be installed on your computer. Here is the link to the latest .NET 3.5 SP1:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

-----------------------------------------------------

You can download the X1 Professional Client Raptor Beta II by using this link: <old link removed> -- please see viewtopic.php?f=48&t=4214
Note:Raptor Beta 3 will function until December 22, 2009, at which time we hope to have a new build available.

**Important Considerations**
- KNOWN DOWNGRADE ISSUE: Downgrading from X1 Professional Client Raptor to 6.2.x (or lower) while saving settings will cause issues in the X1 index that prevent the application from launching. If you plan to downgrade from X1 Professional Client Raptor, uninstall the X1 client WITHOUT saving settings.
- Remember that we always advise that you uninstall any currently installed version of X1, without saving your settings/preferences, before installing any beta build
- Please restrict all comments regarding this release to this section of the forum
- Any user upgrading from 5.5.5 or previous will be required to rebuild their index files.

-----------------------------------------------------

Re: X1 Professional Client - Raptor Beta 3

Postby bytedisk » Thu Dec 17, 2009 5:54 pm

Hi Greg,

I am attempting to use X1 Professional Client - Raptor Beta 3 (Build 3964) on a Windows 7 Ultimate platform with Office 2010 Beta. Is it compatible with Outlook 2010 or is it a bit early?

I'm getting a message "Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as the default mail client"

Any work arounds? or will I need to wait until I'm off the bleeding edge?

Thanks

Installed the latest beta but it says the trial has expired and I need to purchase a license. Do I need a license to beta test or is this a bug?

Thank you,

Not sure what is happening. Installed fresh on Windows 7 64-bit and the icon appears in the tray. All processes are running, but the client will not respond. Anyone else having trouble on Win7-64?

I cannot install the new beta version in my Windows 7. It is my dual-boot with Vista.

Previous versions installed fine.

I tried running as administrator. No luck. Will see if it works after a reboot.

I can reliably make X1 Raptor B3 crash while trying to get it to preview .chm files on my removable USB stick.

The X1 process will go to 50% CPU (essentially taking up one of the two cores) and stay there until killed.

It's a large (20Mb) .chm file

I don't index chm files or USB. So I went to try it out.

Do you have to add chm to the files that X1 should index? It does not seem to be in the default set.

You say that it is a big file. That suggests that you think size matters.

Have you managed to preview smaller chm files in other locations?

No, haven't added chm or anything, just with the standard set of filetypes selected.

It works at home on my laptop, but it was locking up my work laptop.

When actually viewing the chm on my laptop (or at work, once downgraded to v6.2.4 and copied the .chm file to the c: drive) it's just viewed as random text, line noise.

It's just strange it will consistently lock up my work PC, but not this one.

I'll put it down to hardware specific for the moment, will do some more testing tomorrow though.

chm (compiled html help files) are not in the set of viewers that comes with X1. Indeed, I have come across discussions elsewhere about viewing chm files. It appears that the people who provide this technology, now a part of Oracle, haven't found a way, or need, to implement this.

This means that there would not be much point in asking X1 to index it for you.

But that does not excuse X1 for crashing.

What search are you using that shows these files?

Most of the defined sets should ignore these files so they aren't going to show up in the viewer.

Hi Stan,

The Raptor beta should be compatible with the 32-bit version of Office 2010, but we do not yet have support for the 64-bit Outlook. Please let us know if you are observing this difficulty with the 32-bit install.

Thanks,
Alan

Hi Grant,

Yes, you need a current license to continue exercising the Raptor beta (it sounds like you were testing the previous beta in trial mode, and the trial period has expired).

Thank you,
Alan

Hi Allen,

Thank you for the reply. It is the 64 bit Version of Outlook I am using. Will let you know about the 32 Bit if and when I install

Many thanks

I tested your product about 3, maybe 4, years ago and ended up going with Copernic. I now have issues with Copernic crashing when indexing certain file extensions and wanted to look again at X1. I downloaded product for test drive but upon opening have received message the trial period has expired. As it has been 2-3 years since I chose Copernic over X1, I would think X1 should encourage /allow people to who tried it and decided on competitor 3+ years ago, to have new trial period for seeing if the product after multi- years has improved , at least in terms of a client's present needs if not in technology.

It is certainly up to you to determine if use more than a thousand days ago 'blocks' a new look see. But you are going to lose chances to get return looker, to after 3 years or so elsewhere, from coming back to take a new look.

Joe,

I'm a little confused for a few reasons.

1. first you're posting to a beta forum for a product that was released GA June of 2012.

2. Secondly I look at our records here and find that you have a license to use X1 Search 8, the license was installed last night and activated this morning.

3. I also see a trial copy of X1 Search 8 has been sent to you yesterday morning and it too is installed and activated earlier today.

When I add this up Joe I'm not sure what the issue is?

Perhaps you can access the X1 support Portal at http://www.x1.com/support/x1_search.html and login with your university email address and the password for your portal and submit a support case with greater details (screen shots, diagnostic data, etc) and from there I can help resolve this problem.
Sincerely,

Chris Wheaton
