[How to?] index 2 sets of data independently?

Postby ppx1 » Sun Oct 03, 2010 11:42 pm

I would like to index those 2 sets of data:

  • The C:\ drive of my laptop where X1 is installed
  • An external USB hard disk with specific data on it

But I don't want X1 searches to return hits from both locations, I want to make it separate (either get results from location 1/ or from location 2/). In other words, I would like to keep 2 separate index data bases.

How can I do that and activate one index or the other?

I doubt if that is possible, unless you create two separate user accounts in Windows and switch between them for local and USB drives.

It might be easier to have a single index and to create searches that differentiate between the locations.

No, I have nothing to do with X1, just a user since 2004.

Well, in my case, I have only one Windows user account, and cannot switch between 2 accounts. What is the way to achieve a separation between 2 sets of indexing on the same Windows account?

There isn't, it seems. See other messages about moving indexes. They are probably related.

What stops you from having two user accounts?

I wouldn't recommend it just for this, although it would work, but I like a second account for a clean housekeeping interface.

Corporate environment - only 1 account set up by IT and no way to set up an other.

I will move this to the feature request section.
