X1 crashes with latest Win7 update

The latest Win7 update, a "Platform update" released yesterday, as well as the Win7 version of IE10, crashes X1, or at least it does on my Win7 Home machine. I'm using the latest version of the X1 Professional Client (just updated today).

Here's a description of what the update does: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2670838

(Not mentioned is that both of these updates also change the parts of the Win7 color scheme that are not user modifiable, adding a bright blue here and there and making the taskbar icons more difficult to see.)

Installing either of these updates caused X1 to crash shortly after it loaded. Uninstalling the updates allowed X1 to work correctly again.

I have seen reports of this Windows update causing problems with other software.

Looks like there will be a lot of scrambling around as programmers try to recover from Microsoft's "improvements".

I had a hunch the IE update would mess something up (it it is a bear to uninstall), but the other update caught me by surprise.

I have not actually taken the plunge and gone for IE10. Leaving it to masochists who delight on living on the bleeding edge. And the reports I have seen suggest that it is not what you would call a giant leap for mankind.

Then again, I am still use X1 beta 7 on my main PC so that I can use its "social network" features.

In the brief time IE10 was on my computer, I didn't notice anything significantly different. Apparently it's 20% faster. I've switched over to Chrome for most uses of the Internet. I'm tired of Microsoft so tightly weaving IE into the OS that installing a browser can mess up unrelated apps. As far as I know, Chrome and Firefox are at worst benign.

Last night's Windows 7 update made it so my X1 6.7.4 no longer opens. Task manager says X1 is running, but there is no window on the screen.

I am now painstakingly removing each of the 50 updated items.

If Search 8 were compatible with X1 Mobile, I would switch to it, but since it isn't, I have to somehow make 6.7.4 work.

FYI.

No problems here with this month's updates. Win 7 32- and 64-bit.
