iOS7

Postby bobuser » Wed Oct 16, 2013 8:29 pm

Hi,

All was working fine with iOS7 mobile client 1.0.43 and X1 6.74 - (I tried 8, but reverted - part of a different thread) - until today.

App on iOS just quits - whenever it tries to connect. Uninstall, reinstall - reboot - all the usual things you do. Still no good.

Is this true for other folks?

Is this something done by X1? I see the posts about a future version sometime in 2013.

Any hints from anyone to get this working again?

Thanks

You haven't had an update to iOS have you? The webiverse is full of tales of woe on all fronts thanks to Apple's latest wheeze.

No, I have nothing to do with X1, just a user since 2004.

Yes - updated a while back - and X1 Mobile was fine - until today (or maybe a few days ago, as I only tried it today) - but all was fine with iOS7 and X1 Mobile.

The app loads, and runs, but anytime it attempts to do any sort of connection out - the app just quits. I did remove it and have it install again from iTunes - no good.

Additional.

I can ping rendezvous.x1.com 184.72.37.188 but the X1 mobile client (PC) says it can't connect.

So, I wonder if there is a problem at X1 - and may explain my problem on iOS7 - or is it just me.

Yes - it can get through my firewall.

All is working again.

Uninstall X1 mobile from PC - and reinstall (not sure why/how it got corrupted) - and all works again both on PC and iPhone. Bizarre that it has the ability to quit the iPhone app if things don't work. Or, maybe X1 rebooted the server (but I doubt it).

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but that didn't work. I'm getting the "could not connect to rendezvous server" message. I guess this app is finally dead.

X1 promised a new version of the mobile app for 2013. Where is it?

As of today, after I installed ios 7.0.3, can no longer connect from iPhone. Deleted device, and tried to add a new (same) device. It takes a couple of minutes for desktop app to generate a code; then when I enter it into iPhone app, the damn thing shuts down each time. I also see that X1 no longer offers the iPhone app for download. WHAT'S GOING ON?
BTW I did try uninstalling and reinstalling the PC desktop app - no improvement.

new behavior today: at step 2 of "Add Secure Connection" on PC app, after 3 minutes a 9-digit number appears which is to be copied onto the iPhone app. No pairing happens when you do that, but after 3 more minutes the PC app provides another 9-digit number, and so on. No pairing ever happens.

It was broken again for me yesterday, but all is good again now (and I made no changes) - I think it may be due to X1 rendezvous server. I also saw a completely different web site have problems with their images being hosted by Amazon - so, maybe that's the issue. It's quite strange how the X1 app just quits - and so, I think if it can't connect to rendezvous then it just quits. That's my theory anyway.

What I would like is a solution that bypasses any X1 hosted server - or, if they sold a mini "rendezvous" server that customers could host themselves (like Blackberry server) - or some sort.

Oh, and at least it wasn't just me seeing this.

Is anyone (useful) reading these posts?
Today rendezvous server is dead.
And X1 mobile website says "Note: iOS App is not currently available. Stay tuned for updates."

Yes - down for me too.

I don't understand - X1 mobile is just the best thing - and makes all stored email accessible whilst mobile. I think it needs some good marketing and it could be a killer product. But, it does need the server(s) to be running (or let us run our own rendezvous server, which would be better).

I submitted a support ticket for this when I first saw the problem - and I did get a reply - but it wasn't too helpful.

Thanks for your reply bobuser. Can't understand why this product WHICH HAS NO COMPETITION is being allowed to die.

I had a further chat with Tech Support - and whilst it was a prompt and nice chat - it ultimately didn't help the situation.

All I can suggest is that everyone (who is interested) get in touch with Tech Support (as a support ticket) so that may get some attention within X1.

I suggested they reboot the AWS service.

Bad news is that it seems the new "improved" mobile product has slipped a year, from late 2013, to late 2014 - so, you know what that means.

I can't see any good reason why they are letting things die - just weird.

I was curious as to the state of the market - especially after you said "WHICH HAS NO COMPETITION".

Every few years I seem to do this. You're right! It confirms again why I chose X1 so many years ago (since 2004).

The only one that came close was Copernic, as was the case a few years back. But, for me, their software didn't work, but they do have some form of mobile solution - but I couldn't get the main app to run - so I abandoned them.

So, Yes, you are right...

I received a nice note from Tech Support - X1 mobile is working again.

Not sure what was wrong, hopefully just a reboot of the AWS service was needed.

On my post above about Copernic, I did (finally) manage to get it installed on another PC. It was a firewall issue, with their slow registration process. I soon de-installed it, as I don't see it as being in the same league as X1.

I wish I had seen your previous post- it's only today I discovered that x1 Mobile is working again! Let's hope for a while longer.
