X1 lost indexes after Migrated to new PC

Postby skloke88 » Sun Dec 05, 2010 10:58 pm

Hi All,

Hope some X1 experts can help. I migrated to a new laptop just two days ago. Used PCmover to move all the files and apps. X1 seems to be working and the bootup seems ok. However my Outlook indexes were had missing days. It stopped at Mar 23, 2009 and then next date was the Dec 4, 2010. I checked Tools-->Options---> It keeps says indexing X.XX% for almost a day now. Is this normal? How long will X1 take to index a 8G *.pst files?

help anyone?

cheers,

Ken

An initial index can take time. Especially with something like an 8GB PST file. That is pretty big. (I have a set of smaller PSTs and it still takes time.)

The "indexing %" indicator is misleading, as you will find if you can track down the various discussions on that subject here. (The folks at X1 are considering ways of making it less cryptic.)

Laptops may also be less powerful than desktops, and they will put indexing on hold if you use them or they start to run on battery power. (There are settings for the aggressiveness of indexing in the options area.)

I have no idea if PCmover is likely to influence things. I would never use something like this myself. It can confuse the software and I like the excuse to start with a clean installation from time to time.

The gap in your index may be because X1 is indexing new stuff in real time and has yet to catch up with the old material.

Give it time. Leave the PC to do its thing overnight when you are getting a good night's sleep.

No, I have nothing to do with X1, just a user since 2004.

Thanks Kenward,

Yes, I left it overnight to index. Also tried the manual indexing. Still only 2007 mails showed up. Strange. I'll try to figure out why's that. If I need to reinstall a clean copy, do I need to pay? Mine is 6.2.1 installed back in 2008. If you can advise,

cheers,

You will need to pay for a newer version of X1. Or you should be able to get the version you have if you can get into the user support area.

X1: Support Portal Dashboard

You will need your email address and password from the time of your purchase.

Beginning with the release of version 6.2.4, X1 will only accept registration codes that are 16 characters in length.

As to missing emails, check that you haven't got some strange hidden date specific refinement in your search.

Thanks Kenward,

Ok, got everything done.

1. Uninstalled the old version X1 and deleted all X1 data
2. Reinstalled the latest version and re-indexed yesterday. All emails showed up

cheers,

Many thanks for having the courtesy to report back. People often disappear into the woodwork after reading stuff here, making it hard to know what works.

I am still puzzled as to why your original version didn't work. Still, it works, which is what matters.

And you now have the shiny new version.
