Error 1720 during upgrade

Postby bakad02 » Thu May 26, 2011 2:06 pm

I downloaded the latest version in the hope that it would cure index file corruption errors but when I try to upgrade it fails with an Error 1720 message. I've tried uninstalling in the hope that I can re-install but that fails in the same way too. I'm running Windows 7 on my machine.

Any help would be good.

Like much software, X1 has a nasty habit of leaving its muddy footprints all over the place.

When facing this sort of problem it can help to clean up after it. These instructions are probably still valid:

X1 Discussion • View topic - How to remove (nearly) all traces of X1 for clean reinstall
X1 Search 8.6.1 - Build 6003fa (64-bit)
Windows 10 Pro 64-bit | Windows 10 Home 32-bit
No, I have nothing to do with X1, just a user since 2004.

Thanks Ken,

The instructions didn't quite ring true but it got me on the right track and I've managed to re-install X1 as a result.

Process I followed (Windows 7 - 64 bit)
1- Remove c:\Program Files (x86)\X1
2- Remove c:\users\<username>\appdata\local\x1 desktop search
3- Remove c:\users\<username>\appdata\local\temp\x1
4- Remove c:\users\<username>\appdata\local\temp\x1server
5- Download and run the following ZIP file to remove the X1 registry keys from your system:
6- Download and install Piriform Ccleaner and run a registry clean. Usual disclaimer here; backup your registry BEFORE Ccleaner makes any changes. This worked for me but as Ccleaner is a publically availble app I have no control over it's suitability or feature set. There are of course other registry cleaners out there, feel free to choose your own. There, done :D
7- Re-boot
8- Run X1 installer
