X1 does not start - stops at Initializing Interface

Postby gapsa » Tue Oct 11, 2011 3:09 pm

After working flawlessly for more than a year, my X1 failed to start. The screen stops at Initializing Interface and nothing happens. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the same version multiple times after deleting all the local files. I have also since upgraded and even the current version will not start. Having not X1, I feel like my right hand is paralyzed at work. No response from X1 customer service even after I purchased the assurance option.

Windows XP/ Service Pack 2.

I am having the same problem. Worked fine then all of a sudden it stopped working.

I purchased an upgrade hoping that would fix it and get me some support. Support emailed me back once, I followed their advice and sent them all data and now no reply for about 2 days.

Not very good customer service if you ask me. Why windows 7 doesn't include indexing of share folders is beyond me while a free version of Windows Desktop Search on XP works fine.

Anyways, really asking for help here this is integral to me. If no resolution this week I will be searching for a new desktop search product. Will report back at another time.

I tried the trial version and saw it's still the same version I have trouble with. Is there really no solution to the problem mentioned is this tread? So it seems X1 is not running on (my) windows 7?

Mine X1 suddenly stopped working, too. I uninstalled it, with the hopes of reinstalling it. But, now I can't even reinstall any version of X! because I get an error message saying that I have a different version of x1 installed.

Has this issue is never been resolved? I still cannot use X1. Even bought another indexing program, but really would like to benefit from my X1 purchase. I investigated the issue and the error logs are attached. Really 'hope' the issue will be resolved soon now.The error messages and screenshot are located here locate here

Did you ever describe the steps that you went through to get X1 to work?

I can't recall seeing many examples of X1 dying permanently.

The usual recovery regime is to uninstall, clean up, reinstall.

Tried that?

No, I have nothing to do with X1, just a user since 2004.

Only got X1 working on win XP, never on win 7. I tried reinstall many times during the last year or so. Since it took already quite a while,I have submitted a support ticket.

The only extra info in that ticket is:
Professional Client hangs in initializing, also right after after reinstalling:
- The X1 window 'Initializing application' stays on for 30 sec, then closes
- After 1:50 min X1service.exe stops, an X1 window with a question like 'do you want to participate in..' appears
- After clicking Yes, X1.exe also stops
Noting happens anymore. Next try will give a repeat of the above

- Only process that stays active: X1systray, though not responding

Dick - I'm pleased that you sent in your support request. I'll send a more detailed response to you in the case; but let me say this in response to you here in the forums.

The DLL involved in the X1 crash is a .Net DLL file. This suggest that the core problem will have something to do with the stability of your .Net installation. But again, let me review your case and provide further details there.
Sincerely,

My problem was caused by Thunderbird. I posted a solution for V6 in the 4th post of enhancement thread of V8, see http://forums.x1.com/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=5961

Same thing for me.

x1_pro_client_dotNet_4054dh (V6.7) installs happily on clean Win7 (as a test) - but not on my box - it was working just fine - then I needed to do a reinstall as I was 'playing around' and it just won't run after re-install...tried lots of older versions, tried all various XP etc compatibility modes - nothing works. Same thing as others reporting about it in this thread. Win7 x64

I was going to try to work out what I've installed (since Jan) - as that was when this box was first installed...but I gave in...and just bought V8. This works fine.

I liked the older version as it was able to still index Eudora (yeah, I know) - but it doesn't do it as great as old trusty V3.01 - which still is the quickest and best for Eudora. So, V3 and V8 run fine side by side. I did like V6.7 but alas, not for me (unless I rebuild this PC, or revert to a backup which I'd rather not do at the moment).

**EDIT (5+ hours later)...I stand corrected - V8 doesn't work with MobileConnect - which is kind of strange - and I can't wait for this to be released whenever it is meant to be...so, I rolled back to a previous OS image. All is back to normal, with old 6.7.4 and happily running again with mobile etc. Thanks X1 for allowing me the opportunity to test my backup/restore procedures, which I hadn't yet needed to implement, until now.

The way I discovered that Thunderbird was causing my startup problem may be of help for other issues as well. I used a utility Process Monitor (not process explorer). See Windows Sysinternals http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx.

The amount of information that is collected may be overwhelming and to detailed. But just by scanning the output, I noticed what was happening in my case: While starting/crashing X1 opened thousands of Thunderbird files.
