Trial version restrictions or beginner’s mistakes?

Postby George-Berni » Sat Dec 03, 2011 7:27 am

Hello,

X1 Version 6.7.3 Build 4054dh Trial on Win XP SP3 (private use)

I use the trial version because I am waiting for my new pc where I want to use X1 permanently. I love to work with this nice tool. It helps me to find email that I though I have lost.

And it's also nice for finding file. But here my questions begin to arise: Does the trial version have any restriction on indexing files? At the beginning the indexing worked very hard and long. But it was worth to wait. But now, two days later, X1 still find only files in c:\documents and settings and its subfolders, plus the .pst-files in a subfolder of drive d:.
But all my user data are on drive d:. Therefore there is only a small subset of user files in the directory c:\documents and settings.

Please enlighten me on the functioning of X1. perhaps I make the mistakes of a beginner and/or I'm a little blind.

Regards, George-Berni

There are no restrictions in the trial version.

Have you looked here to see what X1 is indexing?

>>Options
>>Indexing
>>Files
>>Select Files to Scan...

By default X1 indexes "known locations". It does not index everything and has no way of knowing where you keep all your data. You may have to introduce it to files that you want indexed.

No, I have nothing to do with X1, just a user since 2004.

Hello,

many thanks.

I clicked around and did not notice that I excluded drive D: drive from indexing. Also, I've discovered over time that X1 stops indexing when other applications are active.

You may not have excluded drive D. X1 probably missed it. Not everyone makes the wise choice of keeping programs and operating system separate from data.

You can control how aggressively X1 indexes.

Sniff around in the settings area.
