How to move PSTs to the Cloud and still use X1?

Postby Forumqnis » Wed Jun 29, 2016 10:00 am

This knowledge base posting says that “X1 Search is able to index Outlook 365 emails that are stored in the cloud…”

http://help.x1.com/entries/107575586-Does-X1-Search-Support-use-with-Office-Exchange-365-

But how exactly does it do that? I didn’t see 365 as an “Available Data Source” option in the Data Sources settings of X1. So would it do that via an IMAP connection? Or what?

I don’t think I’m the only person who wants to move their PSTs to the Cloud and still have X1 to search them. I see that Outlook.com is a data source option, but from what I understand Outlook.com is limited to 5GB and cannot be expanded.

So, what’s the best way to have X1 index my PSTs without having to keep them on my local system anymore?

Thank you.

Not sure where you got that from. Can you point us in the right direction?

I have an outlook.com account. (I just added that to X1 as an Outlook.com account.) I also subscribe to Office 365, which has 1TB of storage space per user.

No, I have nothing to do with X1, just a user since 2004.

It's not very clear, but digging on the Internet I see that Outlook.com has a 5GB limit for mere Outlook.com accounts. But, of course, for Office 365 accounts that amount depends on the Office 365 version.

So, are you saying that X1 indexes Office 365 by doing it via Outlook.com? Sorry if that question seems obvious or basic, I get a bit confused over what Outlook.com is versus Office 365.

THank you.

Don't we all?

For me, Outlook.com is one of the many email services I use.

Office 365 gives me access to all the Office suite, plus 1TB (per user) of web space.

I use X1 to index my Outlook.com simply by adding it as a data source. X1 also indexes all my Outlook email accounts.

Thanks. Separately it has been explained to me that the way X1 indexes PSTs that have been moved to the cloud (into Office 365's hosted email) is that via the Outlook profile, X1 still indexes what's in the cloud even when Cached Exchange Mode is turned OFF. That is, even though the emails don't reside on the PC or desktop Outlook, X1 reaches into the cloud to build its local index from those cloud-based emails.

Many of you may already know that, but it's news to me. That will essentially allow me to get rid of my many PSTs and still have X1 to search their contents with.
