When switching applications X1 keeps coming to the front

Using the latest beta (5000eb). Running Windows 7 32bit sp1 Enterprise.

When I click on an application in the Windows taskbar, X1 window comes to the front. I then need to using the mouse or alt-tab to get to the application I want.

This happens continuously and without exception (other than closing X1, Menu/Close)

This does not happen when I switch between applications using Alt-Tab.

Is there is anything I can do about this?

Bump,

This is really an annoying issue. The only solution is to close X1 (which pretty much negates its useful...).

Hi,

I haven't seen such behavior ...
When does it happen? When X1 is minimized in the system tray, or when you just switch to another application?
Are you using Aero theme? If you switch to a classic, does this continue to happen?

This has started happening to me too. It's fantastically annoying and means I have to close X1 down a lot of the time. I notice it most when I am in Outlook and appending a file to the email. X1 pops up every time and will not stay 'back' unless you exit. I get around it at work by putting X1 on one of the multi-screens and have learned to double click on outlook when it steals focus. It's not happening with any other app..

Any suggestions ?

Mike

Just to add a bit more - it happens both then 1 is behind something and also when it's minimised to the Systray. Each click in file manager brings it up to the top so it can take 4 or more minimises to append a file in Outlook unless you close the app down.

I am seeing exactly the same symptoms.
When clicking on a file within Windows explorer the X1 windows jumps up - similar problems with mouse clicks inside Outlook.
Surely someone must have a fix for this. Have turned off hotkey. 8.2 5001dv 64-bit on WIndows 7 with Outlook 2010. This is driving me nuts and makes X1 almost unusable.

On my machine X1 grabs focus for no obvious reason. I am typing along in outlook or Word and my taskbar (normally hidden) pops up and my keystrokes go to X1. Usually it's harmless, except to my train of thought. Until I read this thread, I did not suppose I was causing it by what I was doing, but now I'll keep watch.

Do you have Ctrl + Ctrl set as the keystrokes to wake up X1 and bring it to the foreground?

  • Options
  • General
That one used to get me. I've disabled it and leave it to Windows to manage that feature. In this way I am not restricted to X1's limited options.

Hi Ken - I may have to come all the way from Australia to give you a hug ! This has been driving me absolutely batty for the last few months ! Every time I tried to attach something to an email every mouse click would bring X1 up in front of the file manager.

I can confirm that disabling the hotkey search window in foreground does stop this most unpleasant behavior. Pity the support peeps didn't know about it and closed my call unsolved !

Thanks again !

Mike

Dr. Bainbridge - I wanted to take a moment to apologize for the lack of response to this issue from the X1 Customer Care Team.

You mentioned that we closed your case in regard to this topic without addressing the issue, and yet, the advise provided by Kenward would have been the very first thing we would have suggested to you. Something didn't seem right so I went looking for your "case" with X1 and I now understand what happened.

Somehow, you managed to submit your "case" through a system that we use only during beta testing of the software. Once beta is closed we no longer support that portal. Thus, your case came into what is essentially an unmonitored account.

I have posted the following link in these forums in the past, and I'm pleased to post it here again: http://www.x1.com/support/x1_search_submit_case.html

While our records show that your technical service terms are currently expired, if necessary, you can use that link to submit a case into our regular service channel.

Just raise a glass of Coopers in my direction.

Unfortunately, with that disabled, there is nothing that I can do to get X1 8 to spring into view through a keyboard shortcut.

To my mind this is a badly conceived and implemented feature in X1. Limiting us to Ctrl+Alt is not good.
