Feedback on X1 Search 8.2.1 - Build 5001hb

X1 Search 8.X still fails to connect at startup. Usual error.
X1 Search 8.6.1 - Build 6003fa (64-bit)
Windows 10 Pro 64-bit | Windows 10 Home 32-bit
No, I have nothing to do with X1, just a user since 2004.

same here, the update did install first time, then fell over straight away with the fail to connect error.

For the benefit of others who have problems installing the 8.2.1 Update,

Today the X1 v8.2 application notified me that the v8.2.1 update was available. I began that update process but it quickly failed and displayed a message about a download error. Various additional attempts including a reboot all resulted in similar download failures.

On the forum I found the post titled "X1 Search 8.2.1 GA Release - Build 5001hb" viewtopic.php?f=58&t=9441 and downloaded its referenced setup file. Launching that setup program caused an installation window to popup. As soon as I clicked on its required checkbox and clicked its Install button, two more identical installation windows popped up behind that one.
The update installation appeared to progress for a few seconds but then its window cleared all text and froze. After a few minutes of no further activity, I moved that window out of the way, then clicked on one of the two remaining identical looking window's checkbox and clicked on its Install button. The installation began again and this time went to a successful completion, with version 8.2.1 now running on my system.

Finally, I tried to close that original failed window and it generated a Windows exception error. Then I tried to close that unused 3rd installer window that had popped up and it complained that I had not yet completed the installation; but I closed it anyway. Finally with all X1 installer windows gone, I rebooted the computer and everything is working well, including v8.2.1

I continue to look forward to the day when all of this can be reduced to 1-click.

Same here. 8.2.1 runs fine, except everytime I boot, X1 fails to connect during the startup process. Aside from the annoyance, seems to work.

Any idea on cause / resolution?

Most users who receive this message do not experience any loss of functionality, however we do appreciate this is an annoyance. We continue working to tackle causes of this error message as we identify them with each release.

If you DO experience a crash or some other loss of functionality related to this message, please let us know here or via Customer Support, with a description of what you were doing when it appeared.
