X1 Search 8.4.1 released! (Build 5003pj)

Postby Michael Devin » Tue Nov 17, 2015 4:50 pm

Hello forum community,

We are pleased to announce the GA release of X1 Search 8.4.1 (Build 5003pj).

This 8.4.1 release should resolve the issues many of you experienced with Outlook 2016 click-to-run installations. For those interested, the issue ultimately stemmed from Microsoft changing the manner in which MAPI calls work with click-to-run Outlook 2016 downloaded from Office 365. During this cycle we were also able to optimize and strengthen our X1 Search and Rapid integration, improving the experience for our enterprise customers. Below are the release notes.

Please upgrade as soon as possible. We are pushing the build live so you can upgrade to the latest version via Help>Check for Updates.

You can also directly download here:
32-bit MSI: http://download.x1.com/downloads/search/5003pj/X1Search32.msi
64-bit MSI: http://download.x1.com/downloads/search/5003pj/X1Search.msi

Search 8.4 Release Notes

New Features/Enhancements
• Added Outlook 2016 click-to-run compatibility
• Rapid: Optimized performance in various areas

Best,

Hi,

try this:
Uninstall X1 if it is not uninstalled at the moment.
Go to "C:\Program Files" and delete the folder "X1 Search". You may be prompted that it needs admin access.
Try to install again.

should I use this. i was using 64 bit on win 7 64 bit

How do I manually uninstall/remove X1?

Here are the steps to perform a detailed uninstall/reinstall of X1.

NOTE: The steps differ depending on your operating system (XP vs. Vista/Windows 7).

VISTA/Windows 7 Users:
--------------------
1. Close Email and X1 using File > Exit (verify that the X1.exe process is stopped via Task Manager)

2. Uninstall X1 using Control Panel > Programs and Features - if prompted to save your current settings/preferences, respond "No"

3. Delete these folders from your system (some of these folders may not exist):
• C:\Program Files\X1
• C:\Program Files\Stellant
• C:\x1supportfiles
• C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Findwell
• C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\X1 Desktop Search
• C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp\X1
• (**If you do not see the AppData folder, then from Windows Explorer, press and hold the ALT key and click on Tools > Folder Options > View and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected**)

4. Download and run the following ZIP file to remove the X1 registry keys from your system:
http://www.x1.com/cs/x1_killreg.zip

5. Navigate to this folder: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Common\
5a. Within the Common folder, delete any file beginning with the name 'winback' (i.e. winbackD_system.dat)

6. Download X1 by logging into your X1 support portal, http://www.x1.com/support/portal/, account and clicking on the appropriate "Upgrade" link located in the lower, left-hand corner

7. (For paid/registered users) After installing X1, you will want to register the product to turn off the trial mode if you did not already do so using the installation wizard. To enter the registration code, open X1 and go to Help > Register Product. Enter your code and click "Register".
NOTE: You must have admin rights on your computer to register X1.

Those steps should work. Just in case, here are the most recent steps our support team works with:

BEFORE UNINSTALLING:
If you can launch the X1 interface: go to Menu > License and Deactivate your current license activation. You may wish to record your License ID and Password if you don't already have that information handy. If you are unable to launch X1, please continue to the uninstall instructions below.

UNINSTALL:
1. Access Control Panel > Programs & Features
2. Uninstall X1 Search. When prompted, opt NOT to save your X1 settings
3. Check the following locations for remaining X1 Search files, and delete them:
- C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\X1 Search - this is the default location of the X1 Search data directory
- C:\Program Files\X1 Search - this is the install location of the X1 program files
- C:\Program Files (x86)\X1 Search - this is the install location of the X1 program files on a 64-bit operating system, running a 32-bit version of Outlook

NOTE: You may find an X1 Search directory under C:\ProgramData\. You do NOT need to delete this directory.

4. Click Start > Run > Regedit or click your Windows Logo Key + R to launch regedit.exe and delete the X1 Search registry keys found in any of the following locations:
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\X1 Search
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wow6432Node\X1 Search
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\X1 Search
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\X1 Search

FRESH INSTALL:
Perform a fresh install of X1 Search by launching the X1Searchsetup.exe found here: http://download.x1.com/downloads/search ... hSetup.exe

Please let us know that works for you.

Best,

Mike

It looks like you have a problem with the permissions for that folder. Can you right-click on the "X1 Search" folder, select properties and look in the Security tab - and check what permissions has your current user for that folder ...

Looks like there are no permissions set - can you edit them and set Full Control to Allow for the CREATOR OWNER user, also check the permissions for Users and make sure at least Read&Execute permission is selected...

it will not let me give any permissions to "creator owner". I dont know why that is there. cant delete it from that window. Dont know why there is a "creator owner" then "system" then "administrators" https://goo.gl/photos/LrenLiqU7KubBkLB7

Can you try to fully uninstall again, then install in a different folder, for example "c:\x1" ?

Yes, when making a clean install, it does prompt you to select installation path.
