What file types are searched by "Documents" category?

Postby ajtrubin » Wed Feb 01, 2017 5:24 pm

I have numerous Rich Text Format (.RTF) files that are not included in searches using the "Documents" category, although .RTF is checked in the Global Whitelist Settings of File Types to be Content-Indexed. What file types are included in the "Documents" category, and is there a way to add .RTF files and other file types to the "Documents" category?
Thanks for your help.

I think I figured out what to do: Compose a search in "Files" for the broader group of file types that I want to include in document searches (including .RTF); save that search and name it, e.g., "All Documents"; add that "All Documents" saved search to the Favorites Bar for easy access; remove the "Documents" tab from the Favorites Bar.

X1 indexes RTF documents by default.

You can see which files a search will retrieve by looking at its Type: column. (Add it if it is not in the search you are using.)

The Documents search in X1 8.5 includes these files:

doc= OR docx= OR xls= OR xlsx= OR ppt= OR pptx= OR vsd= OR pdf= OR odt= OR sxw= OR ods= OR sxc= OR odp= OR sxi= OR xlsm= OR wpd=

If you want to add RTF, just stick OR rtf= in there and save it is a new search.

You cannot add a new file type to the hard wired searches. But you have found the solution. Just give it a new name.

No, I have nothing to do with X1, just a user since 2004.
