Licence transfer how to?

Postby ppx1 » Wed Jul 09, 2014 2:21 am

Hi, I purchased X1 with my company for my work laptop. I am about to change laptop and get a newer model - how do I transfer the X1 licence from the old laptop to the new laptop? I do have my licence ID and registration key. My registration key is 7 digits only, I wonder if this is the key for the old X1 search (X1 pro)?

The licence ID / registration key I have do not work.

Do I need to deactivate the X1 Search licence on the old laptop first?

Yes.

  • Main menu
  • License
  • Deactivate

X1 Search 8.5.2 - Build 6001si (64-bit)
Windows 10 Pro 64-bit | Windows 10 Home 32-bit
No, I have nothing to do with X1, just a user since 2004.

Hi,

Before doing that I would like to make sure that my registration key is the correct one.

x1 Search asks for a license password. I have a registration key. Is it the same thing? The license key is 7 digits only, isn't the license password supposed to be much longer than that?

When I try it out on the new computer, it gives that:

Wouldn't it tell me to deactivate from the other computer?

I am worried that if I deactivate, then it will stop working on my old computer and not work on the new computer.

Besides, I cannot find the email with the registration key. Is there a way to export the key from X1 Search on my old computer, or have it re-sent to me ?

You will find the licence ID at the top of the License Info screen, on top of the (probably invalid) license agreement.

The ID is five numbers. The password is six numbers.

Maybe there is a "Recover my password" option in the support area. I always keep mine in a safe place.

Go here Product Support for Desktop Search

Press the Login button. At the bottom of the login window look for the link Lost Registration Code.

PPX1 - Let me see if I can help a little here.

In the history of X1 we've used 3 activation or registration formats:

-6.2.3 and older products used a 13 digit code with a format of nnnn-nnnnn-nnnn
-6.2.4 through 6.7.4 use a 16 digit code with a format of nnnn-nnnn-nnnn-nnnn
- Search 8 uses the new LicenseID and License Password format which has a license ID of 5 numeric characters and a Password of 6 numeric characters.

To my knowledge X1 has never had a 7 digit activation or registration format.

As for transferring your product, if your using version 6.7.4 or older follow these steps:
http://help.x1.com/entries/21086982-Tra ... to-Another

For Search 8 use these steps:
http://help.x1.com/entries/23780556-How ... r-machine-

If none of the above is helpful please submit a support case: http://www.x1.com/support/x1_search_submit_case.html

Hi Chris, that one, I have for sure in my records. So I installed X1 Pro Client version 6.7.4 on the new computer, and the code seems to be recognized.

When I check for updates, it says I have the latest version of X1 Professional Client. Am I all set? Is X1 Pro Client version 6.7.4 still supported? Is there an easy way to upgrade to X1 Search 8 ? (which I have done on my old laptop but can't find any trace of a 6 digit password).

PPTX - Yes, we are still supporting 6.7.4 but 6.7.4 was not modified so that it could update the users to Search 8. Your upgrade path might be easier for me to assess if I new your registration code number. I suspect you would not want to provide that here in the forums so I'd suggest you submit a case using this form:
