Setup "Managed Gmail" account?

My university uses gmail to manage its mail accounts. I can setup Thunderbird, Apple Mail, etc., etc., for these accounts this way:

I use my university address as my e-mail address (xyz@university.edu), imap.gmail.com, etc., as the servers, and a single "device password" that works with all e-mail clients.

Unfortunately, when I try to set up either Gmail or Imap under X1 Search 8, I get a "validate your password" error.

This managed account does NOT use two-factor authentication, only a single device password for all mail clients.

Is there any way to add Gmail to X1 Search 8? (I use Thunderbird as my e-mail client, and X1 Search 8 unfortunately no longer indexes Thunderbird, or I wouldn't have to bother setting up access to Gmail itself.)

Thanks for any help.

I'm looking for answer to same question. I do have two-step authentication setup. I'm going to turn that off and see if that makes a difference.

You have to turn on "allow less secure apps" in Google settings.
