Reduction in ability to open documents

Postby Simon C » Thu Apr 14, 2016 3:47 am

X1 Professional Client had a short-cut key combination Ctrl-O which allowed you to open the currently selected document in the default application for its file-type. You could accomplish the same thing with a double-click on the entry in the results list, click on the "Open" button or, in certain circumstances, just press the Enter key.

The Enter key still works, in the same limited circumstances, and there's still the button and double-click functionality, but why lose the dedicated short-cut key? Even if you wanted to reassign Ctrl-O you could have provided something.

Why is Ctrl-O better than Enter? Because the Enter key only works if the results list currently has focus, it's never worked if the preview window has the focus, for instance. Ctrl-O, on the other hand, would work whichever part of the application window had the focus. I cannot believe that in the 21st century anyone is deliberately striving to reduce the accessibility of their application by removing easy keyboard-based access to certain functions. So this must be a bug.
