X1 icon not in Windows Notification area

Postby jeffreywilens » Sat Jul 15, 2017 9:33 am

I have X1 configured to start when windows starts and be minimized and also minimize to the Notification Area on application close.

When I start Windows, X1 is indeed in the notification area minimized. However, once I open it and then exit from it, the icon is NOT visible in the Notification Area either in the visible part or in the hidden overflow notification area. It simply is not there. I have to find the program in the Start Menu and restart it.

So "minimize to the Notification Area on application close" is not working.

I have fully up to date Windows 10 and X1 8.5.2 6001si (64-bit) on a trial basis.

It works fine here.

Must be something quirky in your Windows setup.

Have checked Options > General to see if all is well there?

No, I have nothing to do with X1, just a user since 2004.

Hi Jeffrey,

Here's what I think is going on:

The behavior for exiting X1 is a little opaque, and I've had to re-remember it every time a question about it happens to come up.

Take a look at your settings under Options > General:

When the checkbox for "Minimize to the Notification Area on application close" is selected, clicking the window close "x" closes the UI, and minimizes it to the Notification area. Indexing processes will continue.

When the checkbox for "Minimize to the Notification Area on application close" is NOT selected, clicking the window close "x" shuts down the UI process, and thus it will not show up in the Notification area. Indexing processes will continue, but the UI will need to be relaunched (as I believe you're experiencing).

Under all circumstances, exiting the program via Main Menu > Exit will close both the UI process and the indexing process.

Does this clarify things?

This is how it looks here:

That works as expected.

Correct. In order to minimize X1 to the notification area you need to click the Red X which usually closes and exits a program. Use File Exit will close and NOT put it in the notification area. This should have been clearer.
