X1 Search 8 - Regularly 'not responding' - same with you?

Postby mrwul » Sat May 11, 2013 1:36 am

Wonder whether others are facing the same situation as I am:

So X1 v8 is up and running
You enter a search string, let's say: X1+support
X1 finds a number of hits (preview on at the bottom of X1 window)
You want to scroll down in the list

Then you get the 'hourglass' and X1 does not respond, it takes 25% of cpu.

Okay, waiting, waiting .. maybe X1 will crash ..
3 minutes, 4, sometimes 5 - nothing is happening.
This morning I had to wait 12 minutes(!), reason for my posting.

After 12 minutes X1 was back to normal CPU usage 0%

In the search box I want to change the search string - I start to delete the 'T' (support)

X1 hangs again..
am 'lucky' this time, just 2 minutes ..

I delete the 'r'

still waiting... made captures, uploaded it to Photobucket, writing this post.
X1 still hangs.

Q: Anybody else having this issue as well?

Thanks

oh .. btw: X1 is nót "Indexing..."

I have uninstalled X1 V8 because it locked up Outlook 2013 (as described in separate thread by mvinarcik). Before I uninstalled X1 V8, I noted the X1Viewer.exe would occasionally run at almost 100% as a process (25% in Task Manager as it is a four core CPU). If I deleted X1Viewer, using Task Manager, a new X1Viewer instance would be spawned and it would correctly show the file. Most annoying.

I plan to hold off re-installing X1 until the next update (assuming there is a fix for Outlook 2013).

Hi there,

What OS are you running? and you can provide me with some details about what you are indexing? (version of outlook, etc?) We have seen a few isolated reports of this hanging which has been difficult to track down. Please let me know, thanks!

Rhonda

Thanks for the feedback, we're looking into the 2013 issues. Are you by chance running 365?

Let me know, also what operating system and any other details you can provide.

Thanks!

I am running Windows 7 SP1, 64-bit (fully patched) and MS-Office Professional 2013 (fully patched).

I am not running Office 365.

Whatever happened to the X1 Diagnostics Tool? It collected all these details, plus much more, including X1 logs and Windows Events. It would be useful to a X1 Developer trying to diagnose problems remotely.

You mentioned this already on our last discussion.

Diagnosis tool still exists. Our support team is working directly with folks who are submitting this information.

Kind of difficult to use on forums when we're not in direct contact because of the size of many of these files.

I am more looking for folks who may have common a common anomaly.

Additionally, we do have support for a reason :)

You are welcome to submit any information to the team and they will help to talk you through using the tool and submitting the information.

This is the best way to go for difficult support issues which are hard to reproduce. Obviously it is better if we can reproduce it. We do have developers in our forums as well. We are all working to make these forums and our support process go smoother.

Rhonda

Hi Rhonda,

OS: Windows 7 x64
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550
@: 2833.3 MHz
RAM: 8 GBytes
Office 2013

As said, it is a regular thing. X1 freezes (again: it is nót Indexing...) and it often it takes upto a couple of minutes before it proceedes. It then often also freezes again, once I change anything.
After a few times, X1 works flawlessly for quite some time.
Weird...

Yes this is the freezing issues that we see folks are experiencing with 2013.

Have you submitted a case yet? We're actually actively pursuing this problem now and we're looking to get additional logs using our diagnostic tool. I have provided the info in the following thread:

Hi Rhonda, thanks sofar.
I have not yet submitted a case yet.
1) Wanted to first check if this thing is happening to others as well (but I guess it is not a frequent thing)
2) Secondly, right now, it hasn't been happening over the last couple of days
3) I did not think of the diagnostic tool, but... frankly speaking... AND with all due respect(!)
I am not really in favour of transmitting a lot of 'private matters'
(Just checked the diagnostic tools and noticed a lot of 'private' matters, such as filenames, are being transmitted).
Can live with transmitting technical info about my system, but eh .. well, that's about it.
Please.. donot get offended, but I prefer not to transmit this info. Sorry.

BTW..

a) Whilst checking the .log files (X1viewer.log and X1.log), I noticed there are no entries between 08/03 and 12/03.
b) Also I extracted the .zip files and had X1 indexed the contents (i.e. the log and xml files)
strangely enough: when I search of 08+mar (date 08 Mar) X1 finds 1 entry (X1viewer.log)
however, the X1.log contains similar info, but that file is not listed.
The "Index is up-to-date".
(oh: "08 mar" = same as 08+mar or 08+Mar)
