Recoverable Items/Deletions folder

Postby bobuser » Mon Mar 16, 2015 4:38 pm

Upgraded to Outlook 2013, also on latest X1 8.3.2.1 (build 5003eb 64 bit) and now I see duplicate entries for emails stored in Public Folders, with the duplicate being in the path of /Recoverable Items/Deletions path.

I did a complete re-index and these went away, but over time, they come back. And, it's not for all emails, but it is for many.

The PC that this is showing on was fine with Outlook 2010 installed on it - so, I think it's the introduction of Outlook 2013. Note, this PC is not the one that is moving emails around - it is used just for indexing of X1. Note, other PCs with older X1 and Outlook 2010 are just fine - with no changes seen at all. That is, these other PCs don't see this recoverable items path duplicate emails at all.

If those messages exist, how about telling X1 to ignore that folder?

No, I have nothing to do with X1, just a user since 2004.

Nice hint - but that path doesn't "exist" according to X1 or Outlook - it's somesort of hidden folder (or maybe temp folder used by X1 or something else).

So, there is nothing to select to try to ignore it.

My guess is something in the way you have Outlook setup. I don't see that phenomenon here.

I disagree. Nothing was setup 'strangely' for Outlook 2012 - it was a stock standard install. Didn't touch anything. This box is used just for X1 - so, no one even uses Outlook on this box.

Just for fun - I de-installed 2012, and reintsalled 2010 - and it's now happily re-indexing X1 (to be fair to 2010, I deleted the index and reindexed from scratch, which is the same test I did with 2012) and guess what, back to being all good again - no listing of this Recoverable Items folder.

So, my conclusion X1 + 2012 is not completely happy.

What is Outlook 2012? Microsoft does not acknowledge it existence.

If you mean Outlook 2013 (aka Outlook 15.0.XXXXX), released in 2012, then it is very different from its predecessor, Outlook 2010 (Outlook 14.0.XXXXX).

I use Outlook 2013, also known as Office 365, and do not see what you see in the latest version of X1. In other words, X1 plus the latest version of Outlook are very happy together.

From this I conclude that it is either how you have Outlook configured or how you have X1 configured to work with Outlook. If it were a feature of X1, then we would all see it.

Or maybe you mean Exchange, which is not Outlook.

Yes - typo - Outlook 2013 connecting to Exchange 2010. Public Folders.

That makes a difference.

Wrong version of Outlook – but I should have spotted the original reference to 2013 – different environment.

Always helps to have correct and complete information when troubleshooting.

I still suspect changes in how Outlook works. I keep finding quirks in 2013.
