Re-indexing under Windows 10

Postby Stuart73 » Wed Aug 05, 2015 12:52 pm

X1 now takes more time re-indexing than under Windows 8.1. Also it always re-indexes when I sign out of one of my local accounts and log in under another. I use different ids for personal and business use all on the same PC - I am not rebooting the PC between user sessions.

Given trial and error, this is not an X1 bug. Under Windows 10, it is necessary to "Lock" when transferring between local Windows 10 user accounts both using X1 but with different X1 indexing schemes to avoid X1 re-indexing. I am left noting that the initial re-index scan takes longer under Windows 10 than 8.1. Everything works under Windows 10 and re-indexing is only marginally slower after a reboot.

Additional to this post, you might be interested in related Windows 10 problems discussed at:

Included in this thread is:
Step 3: I have managed to stop the runaway Windows 10 background process, TimeBroker, by disabling all apps in Privacy. It is caused by Cortana and Edge wanting to index 2 terabytes of my files each session. I use X1, paid software, for this. X1 is very tame and does not run constantly the way TimeBroker does.

I will never use Edge or Cortana; I currently use IE11 and the Firefox 64-bit developer edition beta with a local Windows 10 account.
