X1 8.4 Consuming Excessive CPU & Disc Space

Postby Tom Doyle » Fri Nov 06, 2015 12:25 pm

I have two issues which may be related.

1. Some time after launching X1, the X1ServiceHost.exe utility will often start consuming >90% of available CPU cycles (Dell Latitude E6450 I7--4 core), 16GB -- maybe about 2-3 hours after starting X1. So I have to keep Windows Task Manager open whenever I run X1 to kill the X1ServiceHost.exe service host process since it seriously degrades my ability to get any other work done.
2. X1 will sometimes crash (without me knowing) and leave >160 GB of temporary files on my SSD drive (1TB). That consumes all of the available space on the SSD which causes other programs to start crashing ("unable to write to disk"). That's my usual indication that X1 has crashed without deleting temporary files. I then have to go into Users>>ME>>AppData>>Local>>Temp folder to delete the X1 folder that is taking all the space. Once I delete that X1 folder, my laptop returns to normal. The X1 GUI will normally still be available asking if I want to Restart or Exit X1. I normally exit X1 at that point.

Please send guidance on how to fix these two issues.

BTW I am running X1 v8.4 build 5003ow (64 bio).

Thanks,
Tom D.

Howdy - I'm having a similar problem. Did you ever resolve your issues?

I'm using X1 Search 8.5 Beta 6001dp (64-bit) on Windows 10.

There seems to be some issue between X1 and Outlook 2013 that causes pauses and freezes. Task Manager indicates that the issue is related to Disk Activity, where the Disk regularly hits 100% utilization and holds it for 1-3 minutes at a time. Something to do with I/O reads and writes? I'm not a tech guy . .. CPU and Memory are fine and never spike to 100 percent like disk activity.

I've tried all sorts of tricks I've found in other forums (including virus check, CCleaner, turning off the Windows Search feature, which wouldn't be an issue if X1 was working right). But still getting the 100% periods that prevent all other activity on the laptop.

Using a Lenovo ThinkPad, Intel Core i7-3632QM CPU @ 2.20 GHz,16 GB Ram, 64 bit operating system.

Any ideas?

Same issue here, also using 8.5 Beta 6001dp (64-bit) on Windows 10 with Outlook 356/2016. I did not realize it was happening until the X1Client temporary files (in an OutlookService subdirectory within that temp file) had grown to over 500GB, consuming all the available space on my SSD drive. After deleting that subdirectory, the new one continues to grow, and already is over 160GB. I am starting to look for a replacement for X1 in the event I cannot find a fix for this.

Running 8.4.1.7430 on Windows 7. Every once in a while (perhaps when I shut down Outlook), the x1Viewer process goes 100% CPU.
