index update when program boots

Postby shapirojm » Sat Jan 10, 2015 5:21 pm

Every time x1 is booted, the index goes through an update routine. Currently, the only setting that I can find regarding update scheduling lets you choose a time of day for updating, but there does not appear to be an option to turn off updating when the program starts. updating the index of files on my machine is time consuming, resource intensive and runs the fan at full speed...screaming. I'm perfectly fine with not having the index update until overnight when the machine is unattended. If I need something more current that I can't find, I have the option of manually updating if I want to.

Please add a feature that allows the user to NOT update the index upon program boot.

This is even more important to me because I've had issues with the x1previewer maxing a processor occasionally for many x1 generations. When that happens, I have to exit the program, at the expense of having to listen to a screaming fan for 10 minutes when the program is rebooted.

Have you experimented with turning off real time indexing?

Are you certain that it is indexing that causes all that worrying fan activity? X1 is a pretty powerful bit of software that has to do all sorts of other things to get going.

No, I have nothing to do with X1, just a user since 2004.

The fan issue is definitely X1's indexing. If I pause indexing, the processor core that's pegged drops to near zero, and it's X1 that shows up in Task Manager and ProcessExplorer as pegging the CPU. My indexes are set to only update once per day at 2:00 a.m., but every time X1 boots, it is apparently pre-programmed to run an update on all indexed files. That's what I'm hoping can be switched off by adding an option in a future program update.
