I was a YDS user when it first came out, then for some reason just stopped using it. I have an old (2000) standalone PC, no network, and just home-grown files, but a lot of them.
Just recently I had the need to start using it again but now I find it's been discontinued in favor of the for-pay product XI. No problem there, but I just can't afford to buy software at this time.
In firing up my YDS (version 1.2 Build 1852jc) I find that it works, but I can't view the contents of pdf, text or doc files anymore. Instead, the preview panel shows the message: "Sorry, a preview is not available for this file. To preview this file type, please visit the Yahoo! Desktop Search website to download the free file viewer pack."
As you might expect, when I go to the linked site, all I see is information about X1.
Question: Is there any way I can get or download the "free file viewer pack" for my copy of YDS? I really can't afford to buy the XI product, nor do I really need its improved capabilities for my standalone PC. Any help in this direction would be appreciated.
Thank you!
