X1 Client window does not open and then X1 service stops

Postby john@gardenway.org » Mon Sep 05, 2011 1:10 pm

System: Windows 7
Outlook 2007
X1 6.7.3

Upon starting X1 client, the task manager shows that x1.exe, x1service.exe, x1systray.exe are all running. However, after about a minute, all processes stop. The X1 windows never opens and no warning message is ever visible, not even briefly.

Does anyone have a suggestion? (I have run the reindex tool).

thank you,

john

This one has cropped up before. I thought that new versions had squelched this bug. Seems not.

If you search the forums for "closes" you may find a few pointers to things that other people have tried in the past.

No, I have nothing to do with X1, just a user since 2004.

Re: X1 Client window does not open and then X1 service stops

Postby john@gardenway.org » Wed Sep 28, 2011 5:44 am

1. I am a tad frustrated. I purchased a new copy of x1 in June 2011 so that I could get support. When I try to report a bug, I am told that I have to purchase a new product. I thought I got 1 year of support with the purchase of the product. Did I miss something?

2. I reported this bug at the beginning of the month and was told that this is an old bug and to search for "closes". I have done that. I found the post associated with the folowing topic: viewtopic.php?f=48&t=4402#p15956, "6.7.1.4054 Crash on Start"

That has some good stuff. I used the uninstall tool. I ran it as administrator and removed X1.

I then reinstalled. Using the x1_pro_client_dotNet_4054dh.exe file. No luck. I still get he same problem. X1 runs for a while and then shut downs. The task manager shows that x1 is running for a while, and then x1 dies (vanishes from task manager).

3. The crash of X1 appears to be an access violation by the x1lib.dll

I have X1 running on a couple of other machines without any problems.

I then tried running the index repair tool. The X1 started and worked for an hour and has since stopped working again. Why would the repair tool fix a problem after I had cleaned X1 off the machine using the uninstall tool? Doesn't the uninstall tool remove the index files?

Why does X1 keep crashing?

What can be done?

Thank you

I am still hitting this same problem. Has anyone found a solution, or is there a Beta that I can try?

thank you,

john

I have uninstalled and re-installed X1 and have not been able to solve this. From the earlier post, this is a known problem. Please advise what can be done. I am willing to try anything. I love X1. It makes searching much easier. I am dependent on it's awesome capabilities. Any beta code or other suggestions that I could try?

thank you,

Hi John,

We are actually in the midst of a closed beta right now; I'm happy to include you in this group. Can you please write me at betafeedback at x1 dot com from your preferred email address?

I have the same issue. Always worked with X1 on XP-32. Now switched to win 7 -32 bit. To be sure, I download the latest free trial. Did not work because of the above error (crash). After that, did all clears, deletions, registry clears, re-install, index repair. Found the diagnostic tool and that provides the following crash output (together with the windows 7 error that the program stopped/crashed).
