Postby noel » Fri Jun 01, 2012 11:55 am

Hi all,

We are pleased to announce version 6.7.4’s GA release. Below are the Features and Bug Fixes. Please note, in order to take advantage of version 6.7.4’s sharpened UI, with enhanced graphics and updated color scheme, this release requires (and will prompt for during install) an update to .NET framework. You can read more and download the .NET 4 update here: http://get.x1.com/dotnet.

Most importantly, we want to thank our 6.7.4 beta users. We sincerely appreciate your thoughtful feedback and dedication to our product!

X1 Supported Platforms Guide
X1 goes out of its way to explicitly test our products with a number of third-party products. Our goal is to test and validate that our products work with those products our customers and partners use most frequently. Just because a particular version of the third-party software is not listed on the supported platforms guide does not mean that the product will not work with X1, just that we do not explicitly test that version of the application.

Unsupported Products/Known Issues:
• Downgrading from 6.7 to 6.2.4 or earlier release requires uninstall without saving index/settings.
• Deployment Manager builds do not support push-to-client searches created in the X1 Enterprise Server.
• Multi-row saved searches are no longer supported starting in version 6.5 and above.
• Delete key does not work in the deskbar (use the backspace key instead).
• Add to Zip PSA does not preserve the relative folder path of the source files.
Windows 7 and Vista
• X1 will ignore registry parameters passed from Windows 7 or Vista searches for variables such as My Computer, Recycling Bin, Network Locations, Desktop.
• The F3 command in Windows 7 or Vista does not send a query to the default search engine if the cursor is placed in the Windows Explorer search box.
• Files RTI is not compatible with Windows 7 or Vista junction points.
Microsoft Email
• Outlook 2010 - X1 does not currently support indexing the 64-bit version of Outlook 2010
• X1 does not automatically detect Outlook mail profile default changes while running. X1 needs to be restarted to establish a connection to the new Outlook email profile.
• Performing a "Copy to Folder" PSA on items in a folder with an auto-forward rule causes the rule to be applied again on the items selected.
• Outlook Express - When using X1 to open, forward, or reply to Outlook Express email messages with attachments, the new email message will not contain the attachments.
Lotus Notes
• X1 does not support indexing multiple copies of the same Lotus Notes replica database.
• X1 will not index Lotus Notes email that only appear in the "All Documents" view.
Other Email
• IMAP Email Servers - X1 does not support indexing of email messages when using IMAP mailboxes. X1 recommends always storing copies of email messages in a local PST file.
• X1 must be closed when Symantec Offline Vault is updated.
Other Applications
• PDF - Preview of PDF documents with the hidden text property turned on does not preview results.
• Norton 360 on-access firewall and Symantec Endpoint Protection may cause X1 startup problems which result in "Remote Procedure Call Failed".
• Access - Unable to preview Access Database Formats beyond Version 2.0 or indexing any Access Database formats.
Internationalization
• A change in locale/regional settings requires the user to rename profile names/PST file paths and re-build the X1 index.
• X1 only supports PST paths and MAPI profiles that contain characters that map to the locale/regional settings.
• X1 does not support double byte characters in passwords, the installation path or data directory paths.
• X1 does not support double byte or accented characters for the Mozilla Thunderbird and Outlook Express mail clients.
• The "Add to Zip" post search action executes only on items with titles/columns with latin-1 UTF characters.
• X1 search highlighting for files has been turned off for queries that contain CJK characters.
• X1 does not support drag & drop of an email with CJK characters in the subject field for Outlook 2000.

Upgrade Considerations:
The following settings will not be preserved upon an upgrade from the X1 Client 5.6.4 or lower:
• Changes to the actions toolbar.
• The "Load X1 at Startup" setting.

Windows 7 and Vista User Access Control (UAC) Considerations:
• The following actions require administrator authentication:
• The ability to install X1.
• Registering the product for all users.
• Setting shortcut settings for all users.
• Adding/removing plugins.
• For these actions, an authentication dialog will prompt for a username and password with administrator privileges.

I think that's the first time a 6.x branch has told me there's an update available via auto checking.

It worked great though! Updated with a few clicks and we're off and racing again.

Thanks!

I'm having a peculiar problem after the update -- searching for CERTAIN emails causes X1 to immediately crash and exit.

I finally figured out that it has something to do with the preview pane -- I did the search after turning the preview pane off, all okay.

The funny thing is that (1) It only happens with CERTAIN emails (I don't know what the distinguishing feature of the particular email is; all I can tell is that it happens with certain HTML formatted emails, but NOT all HTML formatted emails), and (2) there was no problem with previewing the same emails in the previous version before the update.

Any ideas?

Hi rkr3,

Thank you for this report. We are chasing this bug now. I have no workarounds or info yet. I'll let you know what's going on as soon as possible. Unfortunately, it's probably best to turn off the preview for email for now until we figure out what's wrong.

Thanks for the reply.

However, can I revert back to the previous version -- it's extremely inconvenient to keep on switching the preview pane On and Off.

How do I get back to the previous version? Where can I download the previous executable? And would reinstalling the previous version mean a complete re-indexing is required?

Thanks

rkr3,

We can certainly give you a link to downgrading to 6.7.3 and if you save settings when you uninstall, you will not be required to reindex. However, we were able to pinpoint the problem last night and have a new build that we would really like you to try out and confirm that the crash goes away. Could you download this version and upgrade your current install to this version. This won't require any reindexing, either.

Hi, Tod -- I downloaded and installed the newer ('de-bugged') version.

So far so good; I tried a search for one of the emails which was making the previous version crash -- seems to be working okay now.

Will update in case some other problem turns up.

(Funny that no one else complained about this problem, tho!)

I've just upgraded to 6.7.4 and found the preview plane issue too. I've downloaded the update and clicked repair option. but this doesn't fix my issue.
My preview plan issue is only with emails that contain attachments.
I can happily scroll through emails Ok until I hit one with attachments, X1 immediately closes.

Has this been fixed?
How do I revert back to an older version.

I've actually submitted a bug report (with diagnostic report) but not received any emails to say it was submitted successfully.

staneee - Open your X1. Go to Help > About X1. If the version is 6.7.4 but the build number is something other than 4054eu you'll want to install the 4054eu posted by Tod earlier in this discussion: viewtopic.php?f=48&t=5589&p=18269#p18234

If you login to Support, you should find the most recent version that your purchase permits. With luck it will include the one you need.

X1 was installed by our IT department. I don't have a personal account or any login details.
Do I now need to get my IT to reinstall this?, I'm a home worker so getting IT updates is hard work and a pain.

That makes it their problem, unless someone at X1 takes pity on you.

As you seem to be a rare victim of this attachments "disease", you might want to get the symptoms sorted out.

Advice on such circumstances ios sometimes to wipe X1 from your PC completely, without saving your settings, and then to reinstall. But if you do that you will need to re enter the serial number. That probably came from your IT department.

Before you do anything like that, go to Help >> Register product and copy the code you see there. Then keep a copy in a safe place.

Not sure what you mean here
"As you seem to be a rare victim of this attachments "disease", you might want to get the symptoms sorted out."

The issue is an X1 problem and only seen on 6.7.4. I send a new log, and I can send another if needed. I hope you plan to investigate this further. Happy to assist in any way I can.

What I mean is that there have been few reports of this "attachment issue" with the latest build of 6.7.4. To me that suggests that it is not "unfixable" at your end. Indeed, it may be a symptom of something else on your PC, a dodgy PST file for example.

It is surprising how a minor issue like that can cause no problems with some software, or versions of it, but crashes something else.

By the way, as you can see from my signature, I do not work for X1. I just use the software. Have done for many years.

For about a year 6.7.3 (Build 4054dh) was stable.
I upgraded to 6.7.4 (Build 4054eu) for it's advantages described above.
However, I experience unexpected crashes in file search.
(For certaing search criteria, X1 does not even report an error. It just disappears.)

How do I roll back to the older release without having to rebuild the index of ~10Mio files?

Thanks

You would do better to start a new discussion for Outlook 2013.

But you have probably answered your own question.

To clarify, has Outlook 2013 changed the database format for PST files?

Have you managed to read a 2013 file in 2010?

The issue that causes X1 to break is related to how Office2013 - in this pre-release - is distributed. They use something called Office 15 Click-to-Run Extensibility Component.

Click to Run creates some sort of virtual environment wherein your actually running both Outlook2010 and Outlook2013 - and this is why X1 fails.

The solution is to reinstall Office2013 from a "real" install executable and not from the click to run distribution. This link should take you to a stand-alone installer for 2013: https://profile.microsoft.com/RegSysPro ... 033&ci=393

(NOTE: You may have to register to gain access to the install file)

I don't know if you must first remove and then reinstall or exactly what - so you may have to play a little to get this...
Sincerely,

I have noticed that when I try to view sent e-mails I am only seeing the header information and not the body of the sent emails at times. I always seem to be able to read received e-mails stored in X1 but when it is indexing the older emails I sent only show the header information. Never had this problem with prior versions of X1. Is this the right place to alert X1 of the issue and to see if anyone else is having this issue?

Does X1 6.7.4 not suppport Enterprise Vault v9.x or higher... Especially indexing the Offline Vault... I currently have Outlook 2010 loaded with v9.x of Enterprise Vault... and its not able to index or even recognize the Offline Vault..

This was the major reason I bought X1..

I am dependent on X1, which has run unusually stable for the past half year under XP. Now, I have bought a new laptop and runs W8 and office 2013.

What I did not think about was that X1 apparently does not support the 64-bit outlook 2013, because it complains about it during installation. I am running a licensed version of Outlook 2013 [15.0.4420.1017] MSO [15.0.4433.1506] 64 bit, that we get through our MS partner subscription - not the normal preview.

I know I can keep the Outlook 2010 32 bit client as a temporary measure. Would it work also if I ran Outlook 2013 32-bit client?

Trouble is that we planned rolling out X1 to everyone in our company, but they are all running 2013 in 64-bit versions, and we plan to phase out all 32-bit support quite soon.

Do you have any plans for supporting the 2013 in 64-bit and if so, when should I plan for it becoming accessible?

If you are prepared to chance it, and if X1 folks will play ball, I think you will find that the beta version of X1 Pro 7 will handle 64-bit Outlook.

You might find this useful:

viewtopic.php?f=53&t=5575

It says beta, not something usually welcomed in a corporate environment, but X1 Pro 7 went through several iterations before the current version. I find it no less stable than the current release version of 6.7.4. It does, though, miss a few features, like indexing RSS feeds, while adding others, like social networks.

Unfortunately, X1 has gone quiet on the detailed plans for when the new version will finally land. The message I linked to is, as far as I know, the latest we have heard.

BK3 - I wanted to step in here and let you know that work on the beta product is underway and we do expect to have a commercial release based on that product available very soon. When that is available for general release we will have support for either 32bit or 64bit Outlook versions.

Waow!
It got awfully quiet and (to be honest) I was getting a bit worried about X1 to maybe postpone development of their products.
Happy to see that something is on the way now.
Will it be a 6.x version or 7 Chris ?

Re: X1® Professional Client Version 6.7.4

Just installed Outlook 2013 32 bit on my windows 7 machine. X1 version 6.7.4 ran fine with with my setup prior to the upgrade, but after the Outlook 2013 installation it no longer sees my PST files and my index is now empty. I went to X1->Options->Indexing->e-mail->outlook and notice there are no PST files/folders. I tried to add them manually in the X1 options but get the error "Your current Outlook configuration prevents scanning external PST files. Please load PST files directly into your default Outlook profile". I go to windows control panel and notice I have two entries for mail - one called mail 32 bit and one called mail (Microsoft Outlook 2013)(32 bit). Both have profiles and list the same PST files.

Interestingly enough I don't like Outlook 2013 and still run outlook 2010 without issue. I presume this means that the PST files have NOT changed otherwise outlook 2010 would not work.

Does X1 version 7 solve this issue? Is there a way of solving this with x1 version 6.7.4?

Does this mean that you have Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2013 running side by side?

I thought this was impossible.

I should have been more specific. I did not think it was possible to install two versions of Office side by side.

That was only true with earlier versions of office. When you installed the new one it installed over the old one. This changed with office 2013 - when I installed, it preserved my Office 2010 so I can run either the 2010 application or the 2013. That is very neat because the transition is not always seamless between major versions so you can take your time transitioning over. There are numerous posts on the net that describe this new behavior. Are there some troubleshooting steps I can take to try to diagnose why X1 has stopped indexing the PST files that outlook 2010 and 2013 use? It is worse than stop indexing - I can't add them to X1 and my index is now completely empty!

gwtomic - how did you install office 2013? Specifically I'm looking to see if you used something Microsoft calls Click To Run?

Yes the executable has a description that says "Microsoft Office Click-to-Run" I originally just wanted an option to download and install at a later time but it did it all as one step which took me by surprise. Since I could run 2010 or 2013 applications it didn't seem to have any downside until I noticed my X1 index issue.

gwtomic - X1 can support Office 2013. Where we have a problem is with the means by which you've installed your Office product. You're Office product was installed using the Office 15 Click-to-Run Extensibility Component.

This creates a virtualized environment in which to run Outlook, which is why you literally have both 2010 and 2013 Outlook on the same system; but creates problems for X1 in trying to access this virtualized space.

Therefore, you will need to uninstall the Click-to-run installation, http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/start ... 82089.aspx. You should then reinstall the "typical" Office installation (i.e. non-virtualized) of the 32 bit version of Office.

With 2013 installed from a standard MSI package you should reinstall X1 - elect to NOT save settings if prompted. You should be able to use X1 as expected at that point.

Another case of will not index Outlook

Running windows 7. X1 is at 6.7.4. I had not been indexing Outlook on this PC because Outlook had not been installed. Nada - no old version of Office, no beta version.

Outlook 2013 is now installed. It works. The PST file from old PC was pulled over and is being used. Do NOT use Exchange.

While X1 indexes files, X1 is not indexing outlook. "Select folders to scan" is empty.
If I try to add the outlook.pst (on E:\Outlook\Outlook.pst), it says:

Your current Outlook configuration prevents scanning external PST files.
Please load PST files directly into your default Outlook profile.

Outlook 2013 found the pst when I eliminated the one it started with and it prompted me for the location.

I've reviewed some of the older forum entries, but didn't resolve the issue.

Going to Windows 7 Control Panel, finding Mail (Microsoft Outlook 2013) (32-bit),
leads to a window with a General tab with the one profile Outlook.
Looking at properties for it presents a Mail Setup - Outlook window.
Selecting Data Files shows two data files, both referencing the above location for the pst file. (Yes, the same pst file).
The second entry has a check, indicating it is "Set as Default".

Given that I'm running Outlook with that PST file, it seems to me the profile already has the pst file and uses it.

What am I not understanding?

Refactor - take a look at this post: viewtopic.php?f=48&t=5589&p=18956&e=18956, I'm about 100% certain that this describes how your 2013 product was installed.

This is probably worth logging a case about.
It sounds like you're doing everything correctly and it should work.

I was never given a different option to install - the only executable given to me from the MS download site uses this method. It seems unreasonable to me that X1 requires you to use a non standard method to install Office 2013 in order for it to index it. Over time I have noticed that X1 is beginning to index "some" of the e-mails again. I haven't been able to figure out a pattern of which e-mails it is able to index because it is a small subset of my overall e-mails. I have about 12 years of archives and it is now indexing about a year's worth but only from some folders. I'm also concerned by your statement "You should be able to use x1 as expected at that point" Is this not a tested or supported setup?

I have seen a rising tide of messages in other places from people who were fooled into installing the "Click-to-run" version of Office 2013.

X1 is not the only place that feels the brunt of a new way of doing things that Microsoft has foisted upon cunsumers.

You may consider the old way of working to be "a non standard method to install Office 2013". In reality, it is Microsoft's new process that is "non standard". They just don't tell you.

It is a pity that Microsoft does not warn users and leaves other people to pick up the pieces.

My statement "You should be able to use x1 as expected at that point" was simply intended to communicate that once 2013 is installed from a more traditional installation media, thus clearing the virtual environment of not one but two Outlook installations, X1 will index your Outlook2013 email "as expected".

Hi everyone,
I also met a inconsistency but with mscomctl on Office 2003 installations after a Windows 7 update. Anyway, that is another matter. I would like to know if there are any shortcut (quick way) in Outlook to lookup a contact from the sender on a received e-mail in this version of X1. Perhaps something like getting the recipient's e-mail address transferred into the search box of the X1 toolbar with the press of a button. Outlook's "lookup Outlook contact" won't work here, as many contacts aren't in the Contacts folder. Does anyone know of any tip or trick to do a quick lookup of the contact in X1 without jumping between windows? If not, can it be done in a later version of X1?

Thank you
johnix
