"Connection with the X1 service is lost"

Postby fermedia » Wed Jul 17, 2013 6:56 am

Hi,

I run X1 8.01 in Windows 7 x64. I obtain coinstantly the message "Connection with the X1 service is lost". Then am requested to reatrt or exit.

I have been running the software for days being able to index completely. Noew it is impossible to make it work again.

Do you have any clue on how to solve the issue? (besides re-installing every time it happens, of course).

Thanks

my firm's IT team will be sending diagnostic logs to x1 today, i hope.

Hi,

"Connection with the X1 service is lost" usually happens when the service host crashes.
In the data folder there is a subfolder "logs", in which there should be crash xml files which can help us determine what was the problem.

I am having the same problem, but cannot find the data folder that contains the log files. Where is this folder typically found?

Hi,

The default data folder under Windows 7 is
C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\X1 Search
where [USERNAME] is the currently logged user.

You can also try type
"%LOCALAPPDATA%/X1 Search"
in Windows Explorer and it should resolve to the correct folder

I am about ready to give up $99 and go elsewhere. Same problem as all are having with connection problems. I try to copy and paste the error log into this page and the page crashes...I guess the log is too long? I can't attach the text file to this post. Anyone out there that can help? How about fewer smilies and more functionality?

Grumpy. any fix out there?

I'll gladly send the log file along if anyone knows how.

Hi,

in the logs folder there should be a X1ServiceHost.exe.N.crash.xml -it is not big, you should be able to post it's contents here

Here it is, although the problem I was reporting occurred repeatedly on the 28th and the last reported date that the software says it indexed the files was the 8th, and the date of this file is the 18th.

I did a complete uninstall and reinstall. It ran ok while it indexed outlook, but started crashing again after a few minutes of indexing files.

There is no xml file in the log directory however I do see errors like the following in the x1.log file:

After carefully adding and removing some locations and types of indexing over the weekend I have found that I only get this error message if I try to index files in the various Program directories and sub-directories. But, even without this error message there are files that are strangely missing. For example, a directory of log files might only show one of several logs when I search on the logs or path, or directories of scripts used by the backup program that I use shows only one or two of the scripts and appears to skip all of the others.

I'm having this constantly after 'upgrading' last week. I was hoping it was just a problem with using the trial version for a while but it has continued to be an issue. I'm on Windows 7.

Same problem here - Win 7 x64 - X1 search ver 8.10 build 5296 - X1 had been stable for months and then this crash appeared. Restarting X1 as the error message suggests does not solve the issue - just crashes again immediately. Downgrade to build 5000 fixes the issue.

X1 is notably silent on replies to this thread and another thread with the same problem. What gives??

Hi, how do you downgrade to a prior build?

I have been asking myself the same question for some time.

C'mon X1 you have had enough reports and logs to know that this is an issue.

Maybe they could also address the "flashing view" problem that makes X1 Search 8.1 unusable for me with PDF files, as described here:

PDF display is seriously broken.

Where is everyone at X1?

No, I have nothing to do with X1, just a user since 2004.

The problem is that this is not a single issue. "Connection lost" is a generic error message, which indicates that the service has stopped (crashed).
The actual cause is something different in each case, highly dependent on the data that was indexed and on the selected search ...
Submitting full diagnostic information to X1 may help with tracking the issue. See http://www.x1.com/support/x1_search_submit_case.html

One thing to try is to
1. make a backup of the "navigationtree.xml" file and the "saved searches" folder
2. delete the file and the folder (this will lose all the user-created saved searches, hence the backup)
3. Start X1 again and see if it crashes again. If it does not, then probably it is one of the saved searches that causes the problem. In that case we could help with pinpointing the problematic search and fixing it ...

I can't believe you are blaming the crashes on the nature of the search. What is the last version of X1 that works reliably regardless of the search? Can you please make that version available until you get a new version that is reliable? You have many users out here that have an unusable product.

I'm going to cut my losses and move on. Looking at "Lookeen" for email and file search. Trial version looks very fast....odd interface, but what the heck. Hasn't crashed yet.

Renamed navigationtree.xml to navigationtree.xml.bak.

Moved entire contents of "saved searches" to a backup folder. There were and are no saved searches to my knowledge.

X1 starts up and then loses the connection within minutes.

Can you check what contains the most recent X1ServiceHost.exe crash.xml file in the logs folder? Is there something like
<ErrorMessage>UnmanagedCodeException: Crash in X1IndexCore.dll (address 0x8FCE1)</ErrorMessage>

If so, then it is an elusive problem that we still cannot determine how it happens and how to fix it ... it may be that the index has become corrupted ...
What data sources did you have configured, and roughly how many items were indexed?

I deleted my 'wordpos' index files, one of which was 6GB, and now I don't get the "service is lost" error message. It will be interesting to see if all is well after rebuilding these index files.

I too am having problems with lost connection to the X1 service. I had been using ver 8.1 until a couple of days ago when I started having the connection lost errors after which I would restart and x1 would continually crash. I decided to run the upgrade to the new version (8.2) but kept the old index and data. The end result is I still get crashes. Help please! This is the latest crash report.

ERenner - the specific error your seeing is being addressed in the 8.2 Beta product we're testing now. Here is the post to the beta if you haven't found it before now: viewtopic.php?f=58&t=9317 You may not have the ability to work with unreleased software, but understand that your solution is near.
Sincerely,

Not to beat a "dead horse" (search engine), but I have had many of these crashes over the past 3-4 months. I'm currently running Win
7 x64, Windows 7 Home Premium, SP1, on a HP Pavilion Elite HPE with an Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU, 930 @ 2.80GHz. I have 8.00
GB RAM. I'm using X1 search ver 8.2.1 build 5001hb (64bit) Below is the most recent crash xml file. Hope it helps.
