X1 for the Cloud

Postby IsoQuantic » Sat Apr 26, 2014 7:27 am

I use a Chromebook Pixel for most of my work these days. It would be wonderful if X1 made a product that would index and perform searches my cloud storage on Google Drive, OneDrive, Sugarsync, or Dropbox.

Alternatively, does anyone know of a search product for individual users (not the enterprise) that would do the same as X1?

Yes please.

But make that "and Dropbox". Index the whole caboodle.

As the world moves into the clouds – Office 365 for example, or whatever they call it this week – this will be essential.

I have a WD MyCloud drive and have been to figure out how to have X1 index it as well.
So far, no luck. Anyone have some ideas about this?

How is the drive connected to your PC?

The WD MyCloud is connected through my wireless router. It has an IP address and an app that will open it with a password from any device. I can access it from a computer, tablet (iPad) and phone (iPhone). I would post the link to the instructions page, but I'm not sure whether links are allowed. The page can be found by searchin this string "how is WD MyCloud connected"

I doubt if X1 can handle that connection. It does USB and LAN, bit so far its cloud stuff is basic. Box or Box.

If you can make the thing look like it is on the LAN it might work, other than that you are probably stuffed.

With luck the folks at X1 will wake up to the fact that the world is finally getting "connected" and will let the rest of us index our stuff in those exotic locations.

I'm a bit late to the party but add my +1 to X1 Search for Cloud storage sites. Must haves include Dropbox and MSO365 (including MS Outlook online vs. a desktop installation) and GoogleDrive

I would enjoy seeing iCloud and Google File Stream available along side OneDrive.
