X1 Search 8.5 6001qm causes BLUE SCREENS on my laptop.

Hello.

Since some weeks, I experience sudden and unexpected Blue Screens.
It does NOT happen when I am doing a particular action ... it is randomly happening.
Last one this morning, while I was not at the desk ...

Apparently it is because of X1.

After rebooting, the laptop works again normally for some time (might be hours, might be days ...)

When looking at the crash dump in detail, Windows says:

Dear X1 community.

Please help me solving this situation.

I love X1, but my Company does not allow me to continue using it if the issue is not solved.

Does anybody have an idea on why X1 lets my laptop having blue screens like I described above ?

Given the stated symptoms, (random bluescreens referencing memory errors) I would make sure that you do not have a bad stick of RAM or something of that nature.

To which video drivers you refer to, Kenward ?

Chris, it happens on both the old laptop and the new laptop that my company provided me.
I assume that if the RAM was a problem on the old one, it is not any more on the new one ...

The current laptop is a Lenovo X260, with i5-6300U CPU, 64 bit OS and 8 Gb of RAM, and with WIN 7 Pro SP1.

Before asking for the X1 Customer Care, I wanted to check if anybody has similar issues and eventual solutions on the Forum ...

To which video drivers you refer to, Kenward ?

These are the drivers that run the display on your monitor/screen. They are a standard thing to check when you have unexplained "blue screens".

Windows Update will not find new drivers. You have to work out who made the video chips that your PC uses and then look for any updates.

These can come pretty regularly as the makers of the graphics hardware tweak them to work with new software (especially games) and to remove bugs.

There are various other drivers that Windows won't find that might also be worth checking. This may be a good place to start:

laptops and netbooks :: thinkpad x series laptops :: thinkpad x260 Lenovo PC Support

There seems to be a tool to help you with the process.

In this case, if you talk this problem over with X1 support, they will probably include that in the roster of things that they check.

Reports of Blue Screens are rare here.

If I interpret your messages correctly, X1 seems to have worked fine for a while, and then these crashes started. To me that suggests that the problem is outside X1. Something else happened and it is having a subtle interaction with X1. This is just the sort of thing that makes me turn to video drivers for a solution.

But as I said, your best bet is to talk to the X1 support people. Don't worry, they do not bite and aren't likely to demand money. They just like challenges.

Thanks All, for your suggestions.

I am now updating entirely my laptop drivers.

Then I will reinstall X1 and try it for some time to see of it still cause blue screens as before.

I will keep you updated.

Thx Chris.

I updated fully my laptop, I reinstalled X1 latest version (X1 Search 8.5 6001qm 64 bits) and is working so far fine ... after 1 week, no blue screens ...

BUT, what happens some times is the following : X1 forces to stay on top of all other windows.

Even if I try to switch by minimizing X1, it forces coming back on top ...

If I EXIT X1, then rerun it, it works fine again ...

That is, no major issue so far, nevertheless not fully normal behaviour ...

Any suggestion / comment ?

Anyway, I still cross fingers that it does not cause blue screens ...
