Searching with the NOT function is returning incorrect resul

Hello! I have submitted a support ticket, but thought I'd ask here since I'm a bit desparate.

I am doing some complex searches of email and they are returning the wrong results. I have distilled down the core error to this:

Using the search on the top search bar:

Word1 AND NOT Word2

I am searching emails in this way, and the search results are returning emails that contain Word2, which is what I'm trying to exclude.

I have done this dozens of times, although not recently, with the desired results.

I'm not sure how to proceed. Either I don't understand the syntax for doing a search for one word but excluding emails that contain a second word, or there's a bug in X1.

Any insight on a weekend would be appreciated. I'm on a deadline and can't proceed without this working!

Try Word1 NOT Word2

That's how the search operators work.

Thanks Kenward for the reply! The result is the same whether I use

word1 AND NOT word2
word1 NOT word2
word1 -word2

The result set is still including results that have word2 in the body of at least one email

I'm very worried about the integrity of X1 search, on which I've depended for many years.

Any additional insight will be very much appreciated!
