X1 no longer indexes my external drive

I have an external USB drive that the last release of X1 indexed. V5.5 won't recognize my drive. It seems this is by design! THIS IS WHERE ALL MY DOCUMENTS ARE!

Even in the help file, it says we can click a "browse" button to choose which drives to index, but this button doesn't exist! There's only a browse button for network folders. Thumbs down!

Yes! I also ask for indexing external USB hard drive support!


XDS v5.5 dropped the unofficial support for this feature:

There are others I know who put their data on external USB hard drive, going to different offices to work.

(By the way, you can consider to revert back to XDS v5.2.3 if you really need this feature).

Well that's just ridiculous. There could easily be a checkbox that disables removable drive indexing for the people who have problems with it. Sounds like X1 caught a case of the lazy developer...

The new "feature" of NOT indexing external drive is a severe limitation.

I hope indexing of external drives returns soon. I find the utility of X1 to be greatly reduced by this seemily arbitrary decision.

Without this feature, X1 is nearly useless.

I have no idea if this will stick, but you can add an USB drive if you are prepared to go through the hoops needed to make X1 index your network drives.

When you have done that, add your USB as a "network share".

Unfortunately, X1 does not have an "Index Now" setting, so heaven knows when it would get round to the task. I guess it will also "forget" the index when you unplug the USB device.

But if you are prepared to experiment, and you can't find a better tool for indexing USB devices, it might be entertaining to try it.

As to being "nearly useless" I have no need to index USB devices, so to me this feature is irrelevant and has no impact on the use of X1.
