Modified Outlook Real Time Indexing X1 v5.5.2

Postby gww » Fri Apr 28, 2006 10:39 am

X1 v5.5.2 will only index the Outlook Inbox, Sent Items, Drafts and Deleted folders in real time.

With Wizards setup to filter the incoming mail to the Inbox- subfolders. Eliminating Real Time Indexing on the subfolders defeats the purpose of having it in this situation.

Please add an opton so all Inbox-subfolders are Real Time Indexed.

Thank you,
grant

Yes, I agree - I use ClearContext Inbox Manager, which for me, files sent mail into subfolders within inbox - and not indexing these in real time could get confusing...

Clearly they've been working on the real time indexing subroutines. As 5.5.2 is a bug fix release, maybe we can assume that some of the now-missing features were causing the problems some were seeing in 5.5 and 5.5.1. If so, the quick fix was to close off those areas while they work on and test more comprehensive fixes. At least, let's hope that is the case. If real time indexing is not comprehensive, then it would seem to lose much of its value. If Outlook subfolders are no longer being indexed in real time, then what other things are missing too that we just haven't seen yet. Hopefully these will return more speedily than the recently disappeared support for removable media. Didn't someone from X1 report that had been removed because it was causing problems for certain people?

Absolutely. RTI was limited to balance performance and speed. A number of users experienced performance issues with it so we made the call to reduce its breadth while we continue its development. We know that's not the optimal solution for most but this is a new feature and we're getting our arms around it.

Hi pgk,

I'll reply you in 24 hours after I have a chance to check this out for you (need to import my Outlook Express emails into MS Outlook XP).

Kind regards,
Rgds / Mr. Wong

X1 says that it indexes only the Inbox, Sent Items, Deleted Items and Drafts in real time.

Just gave XEC a spin (X1 Enterprise Client Version 5.5.3
(Build 3162) (Created: Fri Jun 23 10:10:07 PDT 2006).
[EDIT: WITH MS OUTLOOK-XP]

Confirm with Kenward that v5.5.3 Build 3162 (aka Licence Key activates network indexing version) does not have full RTI.
ie: it indexes only the Inbox, Sent Items, Deleted Items and Drafts in real time.

= = = = = = =
BugReport: v5.5.3 Build 3162: Outlook emails not deleted when Moving from a RTI folder to a non-RTI folder

In fact, moving many emails to and from a RTI Outlook email folder and another email folder with no RTI, it causes a mess.

For example, [Inbox] (with RTI) with sub-folder called [Customer] which has no RTI.

A) Moving emails from [Inbox] to subfolder [Customer] does not update XEC, since no RTI.
-So XEC still shows the email remaining in [Inbox] even with RTI, which may be a bug. (until next forced scheduling indexing).
-This same email does not show up in [Customer], as no RTI.

B) Moving emails from sub-folder [Customer] with no RTI back to [Inbox] with RTI: causes an email to be duplicated (until next forced scheduling indexing).
-[Inbox] shows this new email, since RTI.
-XEC still shows the email also remaining in sub-folder [Customer] with no RTI.

Sorry. Just for the usual folders.

Maybe we will have to await PCs with eight processors that can handle the load.

I agree that it helps to have as much control over software as possible. But you and I have seen enough questions here about turning things on and off to realise that too many options can confuse people.
