I understand v5.7 will support Office 2007.

MS have annouced Office 2007 will be launched on 30th November.

We have migrated to 2007 TR2 now to bring in a new CRM and are anxious to be able to use X1.

Is there a date when a Beta of 5.7 will be available please?

Can you point to a definitive statement that this is the release date for Office 2007?

All I have seen is that there will be various upgrade incentives. A quick search of the Microsoft web site shows no mention of an official launch date.

I cannot find it on the Microsoft media web site. You must have a better source. Where can we find it?

Computer World reported 2 days ago (Nov. 2) that it would launch in the US on November 30.

I'm afraid that, as a journalist myself, I would rather listen to Microsoft than to a trade magazine when it comes to release dates. So while there may be something in those reports, I will believe it when I see stuff coming out of the door. We have had too many similar reports that turned out to be wrong.

It also isn't that clear to me what that report is talking about. I note also that it says: "The general release of Vista and Office 2007 is still on track for January 2007."

Even if the November date is a reality, it looks like one of those sham dates that will mean nothing to 99.99 per cent of users.

I do agree that MS are experts at false dawns but this date has been widely covered in trade publications. We saw it first in <a href="http://news.zdnet.co.uk/software/0,1000000121,39284507,00.htm">ZDNet </a>

My original question still remains, whether Office is released in November or January, when will X1 support it and when will Beta 5.7 be made available?

My understanding is that the upcoming XEC v5.6 will concentrate on IE7 compatability.

XEC v5.7 will concentrate on MS Office'2007 and i would suspect Windows'Vista.


Personally, I feel it's more fair to expect XEC to release a compatable version shortly after Office'2007 & Win'Vista becomes broadly available to the general public.

The betas of Office'2007 & Win'Vista are constantly changing, and to expect a beta of XEC to be compatable with other beta programs is... you get the idea...

So what if MS claims to be technically "on schedule" release for MS Office'2007 & Win'Vista in end-2006, if 99.99% of the users can't get their hands on this?

The question I asked was when and as yet no response from X1!

In the November release Corporations will get hold of 2007 and two months later the rest of us. X1 will be alone in its inability to offer a search service.

I understand what you are saying about beta versions trying to work with other beta versions but 5.6 was no doubt worked on prior to IE7 release date?

We would like to use X1 to index our very large email stores but currently cannot. X1 may well lose a lot of users to the like of Coppernic & Google whose software does support Outlook 2007 mail.

It would be nice for X1 just to say when it is likely to happen!

Copernic and Google may support it, what about MS's own desk-top search? In your shoes I would look at that first.

You haven't by the way, told us which version of X1 you use, or if you have tried the latest beta, which might surprise you. (Not being a masochist, and avoiding beta software for something as important as my operating system and office software, I won't be jumping on Microsoft's new treadmill for some months, so I don't know what the beta supports.)

As to not hearing from X1, have you heard of this strange creature called the weekend? You and I may have an Internet connection grafted to our brains, but those with a family and a life to live just might be out sweeping leaves of the backyard, or garden as we call it in Europe.

Amaziningly 5.6 does support 2007 Outlook!

It is a shame that the reply from our paid for support enquiry at X1 did not mention this! All that was said was that 5.7 would support it.

The fact that X1 5.6 is compatible with Outlook 2007 doesn't answer the original question. Is it compatible with Office 2007? My tests show 5.6 doesn't properly display the new Word docx format. Since this is a viewer issue, and X1 doesn't build the viewer, it may be months (or longer) after Office 2007 is released before this capability is available.

If it is indeed months then X1 will lose users who will migrate to the desktop search that comes with Outlook 2007 ..... that is assuming that that particular element works as to date I have never got the Beta working on either of our development machines!

Over on another group, someone has just complained that it slows their Outlook mail retrieval to a crawl. They have removed the Microsoft software.

No that is the the latest v2 where the 2007 version is v3 and still in Beta.
