Can somebody (from X1?) please post a guide to iFilters:

Where to find them
How to install them
How X1 uses them

Happy New Year.

Here's a few pages with some basic iFilter information to get you started:

The above URL links to this page which has downloadable iFilters as well as links to other iFilter pages:

Thanks, I'll have a look and see. One immediate thing I'm not clear on, is it sensible to install Microsoft Desktop Search just for its iFilters, or does X1 have them already?

As far as I know, X1 uses iFilters. People have asked about this before but there hasn't been much in the way of an official response. The word is missing from the KnowledgeBase.

What do you want to find that isn't already built into X1? I'd ask that before worrying about iFilters and how to add them.

No, I have nothing to do with X1, just a user since 2004.

It's a bit like the mountain . Although I would like to have my Outlook 2k pst file indexed which X1 has never managed to do properly, and it occurred to me that Microsoft might have the relevant filter.

If Outlook 2000 is on X1's list of compatible software, I haven't checked, then you should investigate why it doesn't work rather than look for an iFilter.

If it isn't on the list, then it is probably because it is obsolete and you won't find an iFilter out there, perhaps because it is built on old technology that can;t travel down that road.
